This is gonna sound really stupid - but how do I tell which side of the paper I'm meant to print on? I have some cheapo matte paper from Tesco and it looks virtually the same on the both sides, except one side is slightly whiter than the other

Try it on both sides and use whichever works best :)

Definately the whitest side Cheryl. It has the coating to make it receptive to the ink

:thankyou: It was only after I'd printed a few pages that I realised there was a slight difference in colour

If you hold it at an angle under the light the ""WRONG" side will have a little texture to it. The printing side is smoother

Not if its textured paper  ;)

Another way to tell is to slightly damped your finger and when touched the printable side will be to one which is tacky.

Now thats a Tip for you ( you learn something everyday).

I frequently use matte paper, but have s*d of a job deciding which side is whiter in tungsten lighting.. yellow or yellow.

you can use two sheets and hold them up together to try and find which side to print on.

I find the Epson Archival Matte to be very good paper.
