Ok you have a square, each side is 1 mile long. Is that then 1 square mile or 4 square miles?

I square mile (1 x 1 = 1). A square with an area of 4 square miles would have equal sides of 2 miles (2 x 2 = 4).

When I was at school, that was 1 square mile, mind you, it was a wee while ago:lol:

thanks peeps :) when i was at school i was too busy smoking in the loo's

And another question then, what's the difference between one square mile and one mile squared or are they the same?

Aha, eh?

Same thing really except if you we're being pedantic you could say a mile squared would necessarily be a square whereas a square mile could be any shape of that area.

I probably should have said whats the difference between 2 square miles and 2 miles squared.

2 miles sqaured is just bad grammar in my opinion :D

Two miles squared is four square miles surely? (as in 2 x2)

Anthony.

That's disgusting. At least we were in the fresh air, behind the bike sheds.

Smoking behind the bike sheds aint disgusting, but I will tell you what is :D
