My Dad has made me a wooden light box with frosted glass, but I need two things to finish it off:

1. Some sort of sticky backed paper or plastic to diffuse the light (the glass is too transparent).

2. Sticky backed silver foil to line the inside of the box.

Just wondering if anyone here has built themselves a light box and sourced the above.

Thanks

J

Go to your local glaziers, they should have some sticky backed frosted stuff, do you need the tin foil to be adhesive, won't normal tin foil do?

Oh yeah, whatever happened to the light block :D

It's on the workbench in my mind ;0)

The guy I used for laser cutting my parts moved locations at the end of last year so I can't get down to see him in my lunch break so the lightblock project got put on hold for a bit. It's still there though when I can get down to see him.

Spray the inside white and use opaque acrylic instead of the glass. If I ever get round to finishing the light block I started ages ago that's what mine will have and it diffuse the light from the 5v LED strips very well;

I'm using my single 6x6 one as a Kindle light in bed at the moment :0)

Good point about the white paint. I'll try that instead of the foil.

I'll have to stick something to underside of the glass as its glued in place now. Otherwise the acrylic would have been a good option.

I found some sticky backed plastic stuff on Amazon that's described as 'milky'. The sort of thing that's used to make windows private. Going to give that a go as I can put several layers on if it doesn't diffuse enough.

You could try a sheet of tracing paper on the underside of the glass, use blu-tac or similar to try it first, will probably be more effective with a bit of an air gap anyway.

The one I made for use when sorting negs for my scanner, I made with translucent plastic, the box is simply painted white inside with 12 inch under cabinet strip low wattage . Tubes for illumination. It gives a lovely even light.

Thanks Steve, I'm going to give that a go.

Frosted acrylic works best. THIS is mine. Not sure why you want to line it with silver foil, though?

Funny site that! Thought I'd have a looksee but they won't let me into the forum without registering. What are they hiding? At least you can read what's on here to see if you like it, but there's no idea what they are doing. I'd like to know if the discussions are "my type of thing", but not allowed. Shame.
Liked the box, but why the secrecy on the forum? Not masonic is it?
Might copy the box though!!!
Thanks for the link.

I could tell you, Frank but it's secret! :D TBH, mate, there's little or no discussion in there. They're not proper forums but instead intended to allow people to ask questions in a message board format instead of emailing me via the contact page. It didn't really work, though, as everyone still emails me so I'll probably remove them soon.

So do you run it? Is it your baby?
I just thought/assumed it was a public forum a bit like this one. Sorry.

No, that's my blog, mate. I built that site from scratch. I installed the forum a few months back in the hope it would save answering the same questions over and over via email but it didn't. :D I kept it register first to slow down spammers.

Ah. A blog. Don't deal with them very often.
I must start getting myself into the digital age.
