Matching Screen to Printer Output?

Hi guys

I have a problem with the output of my printer not matching the image displayed on the screen.

I use a fairly inexpensive Gericom 19" TFT monitor and the images displayed look good. Colour, brightness and contrast looks fine.

I have a Panasonic KX-P8415 colour laser printer. The printed image is to dark and the red content is to much.

So, my question is, how can I get more acceptable printer output? I'm not a purist but presntly printer output is unacceptable.

I don't want to purchase expensive equipment to calibrate the monitor! I'm happy with the image displayed and if I could get a matching print that would be great.

I've heard of ICM profiles, but that's about it I have no idea what they do or how to use them.

In your printer driver (the one that came with the printer not the windows one) you should find options that determine which paper you are using. Find one that matches the paper you are using and try a test print. If all is well you need look not much further at this stage. If it doesn't then you need to consider your working colour space, monitor calibration, and icc profiles.

I think I'll have to take a look at ICC profiles as the output is similar regardless of the paper.

I'm using a printer driver that has been modified to accept other papers, transfer papers. It is however the panasonic driver.

Going to download the calibration page and see if I can't knock this problem on the head now, once and for all
