My first 52 week project - I'm hoping this will help improve on both my composition and the ability to adventure out and hunt new locations..

Firstly I want to ensure that I upload and release a photo each week, I could have started a week later because my 5D mark II is away for repair - so this first shot is with a Compact :D

I took this with a compact Ricoh Caplio R6 - nothing special, handheld while getting the sledge out fo the car! Was freezing, dropped my camera twice (no strap) and then trying to dodge traffic while crossing the icy road with a 2 year under my arm! but was an awsome day on the sledge, even managed a bruised rib :(

Side note - I'm not sure to keep the black borders for the entire project, I might just make it random, I know it does not suit everyone

C&C Welcome..

Thank you Stuart - My subject is pretty much what I think I do best - I'm no good at portrait work unless the subject is hot :p

But away from this project this year I want to push my photography out a little more and try to learn new angles, composition's be it urban, rural etc

See how it goes, 2 year's of photography under my belt I still have masses to learn and this is where you guys come in with your Critique and comments and I thank you all in advance for that

I had a good time doing my 52 last year, Think I might do a diffrent project this year.

I'll make a point of commenting on your photos through out the year! (I'm terrable for not commenting!)

I agree, it's a great start to your 52! Good luck with the rest of the year! :)

Not the best starts to a new year, I managed to brake a rib while sledging with my children, my Grandfather passed away, weather is terrible! Hows that hey?

Anyways, I went out last Sunday for a short drive and as you can see from this photo all our snow has melted away ":(" I love snow! So the snow has gone and the terrible January weather returns, rain, cloudy you name it it's on us. Looking to the futre in 10 day's time I will be spending some time with my father and maybe then my 3rd Landscape photo for this year will be from the UK "Snowdonia"..

About this shot: Just an old farmers hut torn apart over the years by the bad weather...

Sorry to hear about the start to your year. I hope things get better for you.

I really like this shot, I think the black and white is a good idea. the converging verticals are quite notable though. and presonally I hate vignettes!

Hope that helps

Stuart

Thank you both for the Condolence messages..

Stu, thank you glad you like the conversion - first I've heard any one mention about not liking vignette's, I shall keep an eye out and ensure I dont push the slider too much! It's not the best of shot's but given the conditions I think it passes for week 2 :)

Azure, thank you kindly - I'm off to UK next week so I'm hoping my next shot will be from Snowdonia or in and around that region..

Taken while on a recent trip to the UK while crossing the English Channel.

A Cargo Ship is lit up by the light shining through a break in the clouds, I had about 30 seconds to rattle 2 or 3 shot's off before the boat drifted out of frame. I had no time to race to the upper decks of the P&O ferry so I did the best I could shooting through a misty cabin window, I was lucky enough to have the sun in frame to top of the composition...

I really love that. Normaly I would say that there is to much empty space but in this instance it gives a feeling of being alone on this amazing planet! :D

Hi Martin

managed to miss your thread before ,sorry

I have no idea about converging verticals or vignettes but I do really like your 3rd shot .Very atmospheric ,just a hint of blue sky & the ship caught in a pool of light

Hope the rib heals soon
Cheers

Thank you and the rib is healing fine :)

3 brilliant shots! 3rd one is my favourite so far.

Thank you - I hope the weather picks up a little better, very dull in this neck of the woods..

Small note, my camera was sent back for repair again last night having only just got it back - subjects more than 100 meters away will not focus, when Canon fitted the new focus ring to my 24-70 they failed to set it up correctly. Both camera and lens have to be sent back..

... make that 4 briiliant shots! The 4th one is now my favourite LOL. Love the warm colours, but you still get the feeling that is cold with the morning dew/frost on the grass in the graveyard. Really crisp image.

Thank you again, the shot itself is made up of 2 exposures, 1 for the middle ground / sky and the other for the foreground, I just used the sky layer and blended that in to the foreground layer by using a masking layer. The hue, dew and frost was a nice touch and as you correctly said it adds a nice touch to the grave stones..

Still not got my 5D Mark II back, almost like a joke gone to far :( Anyways, I was loaned a 7D for the weekend, have to admit nice camera! Love the AF system and the hidden features the 5D Mark II does not have ...

This is shot number 5 towards my 52 week project, nothing special really - weather is very dull - he was bored so we had to move fast back to the car..

An Interesting day today, managed to get out and take number 6 from 52 of my project and what better way than to catch the sunrise before work.

5D Mark II and 24-70 L are back from repair.

March edition of Digital SLR Photography magazine arrived in the post of which I have a 3 page spread!

Scans to follow.

I have been meaning to shoot an industrial chimmney stack for some time, it's just finding one that pumps out as much smoke as this one. It's not the best of location's where I shot this from but any closer and the trees and building's surrounding it would obscure my line of sight.

The name "Nature Burning" comes from the fact that this factory uses wood to create items ranging from laminat to furniture components. It's owned by Glunz AG / Sonae Indústria a large company based in various location across the globe including this one at Horn, Germany...
