Marks 52 - Week 26 Night

Hi Mark apologies for being to late to comment, a major catch up for me.

Complex:
A nice idea and capture. It is difficult to take a picture of a flower that has areas of shade on a bright sunny day as it causes huge contrasts of light and shade that are difficult to play with. Good job!

Time:
Perfect, eveything is right, colour, clarity, composition and lighting. well done

Inspiration:
The composition and light may not be as you would have liked them, but the idea is spot on. As a mother of a boy who was inspired to go into marine biology because of similar books, it makes perfect sense to me.

Development:
Lovely sky, but the grass is a little dark. Again a nice idea behind this shot.

Very nice Mark. I really like it and it's very clear fit to the theme. I think I agree with Jean about the grass, and, if I'd spotted it during the shot might have removed it, but I doubt that would have happened... By then of course it would be too tricky to remove it, so I'd probably have left it too :D...
Thank you and me too....

Thats what I call jammy, finding a sign like that. well done. Only quibble I would have is it looks a tad underexposed on my monitor ;)

Jon

Jon I think you're right it is a tad underexposed

Fits the theme well, nice one.

Thank you

nice spot...
would question your exposure though if I may ;)
why iso 800? 1/4000 sec exposure ?

could you have reduced iso for better photo quality and still hand-held?

I was wondering who would notice the exif. I would question my choice too, a real case of not checking before pressing the button. One of the problems I find with the 400d is that it is easy to change the iso without realising.

Really like this one

What a perfect find and bang on theme :clap:

Just a tad dark, but that´s just being picky ;)

Really struggled this week so resorted in the end to a well troden path. Freedom of speech. We really are lucky to have it I think and I worry that with every passing day we erode it. I can't remember who said it now but there is a quote that says I will defend my right to be offended and to offend. We should be able to express opinions but we must do so knowing that we will be challenged and our principles tested. None of us have the right to say we know whats best for someone else.

Freedom of Speech

Flickr seems to make them quite dark, must remember this in future:bang:

Development: Great interpretation, simple and effective shot MArk

Freedom: Fantastic set up and well taken shot - superb interpretation too - I placed a link in your flickr version of a very similar shot I took of someone in the same set up who looks a little like you....its not is it? ;)

Thank you Jean & John.

John, no that wasn't me, I guess the shot isn't that original, but then I never said it was:lol:

Simple, but a great idea....why didn't I think of it.

Brilliant...

That's a clever shot and work very well...:clap::clap:

as you noticed it is a bit dark, but it's still brilliant...

Excellent interpretation and being slightly dark seems to work with your words, suggesting repression and dark forces at work. The expression in the eyes is great.:clap::clap:

Jean

Sorry to take someones elses words, but this really does sum it up beautifully.

Well done I like a lot!

Thank you all for the kind words about last weeks shot.:) As you all know my shots are coming out a bit dark on uploading at the moment, so this week should be fun.

What a concept and I've just started to formulate a few ideas for a possible reshoot. However time and tide dictate that the shot must be achieved and below is my humble effort. I wanted to paint the castle with light, but couldn't really get the intensity I wanted. Still the nights are drawing in....:naughty:

Thanks for looking..... I know, I know it's a bit dark:bonk:

Yes it is a little, but the idea is a great one, perhaps taking it a little earlier in the night, or if your using photoshop, the fill light slider is a great tool for adding in a little extra light!!

Still a nice shot!!

Missed your freedom shot, really good, is that a softbox I see in the catchlights?

Very good shot, and a great idea for the theme.

Your night shot is fine, I don't mind it being dark and the moon and castle are a great take on the theme, well done.

I hope you don't mind me poking my oar in on your thread.
I'm really getting into these 52s and might join up myself in a few weeks.

I love the drama of that photo, although it does look a abit dark to me. . . possibly because I'm at work at the mo and things always look darker on this monitor.

:nono: And yes I know I shouldn't be browsing on here while I'm supposed to be working.

Freedom, great interpretation on the theme and well shot. Night, works well, the bulk of the castle is clear as to what it is, and the misty moon adds to the ambience.

I like the idea of the bulky shape of the castle looming our of the darkness like that. A good concept and you've caught the moon nicely too.

Jean

Thank you both. I think I'll retry it when I can more effectively light the areas of the castle. I was lucky with the moon.

I don't mind at all, welcome and thank you for the comments. The picture looks positively black on my work monitor too.

Thank you very much:thumbs:

The picture looks positively black on my work monitor too.

That's better !
I'd wondered whether my work monitor was too dark or my home one too bright and I guess this answers my question. I can definitely see more now I'm at home.

The silhouette thing I had on my work monitor did look very dramatic, but it's definitely better now that I can make out some of the brickwork.

I still fine this a tad dark for my taste and like you said if you could have used a fill in light I think it would have brought this shot alive...it's still a pretty good shot though...worth a revisit...

Fits the theme nicely

A bit too tightly cropped at the top for me otherwise it works really well. You can see just enough detail to know what it is but it still retains a sense of mystery about it.:clap:

Catch up - Very nice feel to the development shot, lovely detail and composition. Freedom is a great concept and gets a huge thumbs up. As you said yourself, it's a tad under/dark, but still a nice shot and mono is clearly the way to go!! The castle is nice, I think it would have benefited from a little more sky but a definite top place to revisit me thinks.

Blimey so many comments my humblest apologies for not responding to all your kind comments. It's been a hectic week, so I'll also try and catch up on all of your 52 comments this week

I like the castle shot too....
only comments are:
1. bit too tightly cropped to the top of the castle.
2. the tree "growing" out of it is a bit distracting..

cheers

It is a bit to tight a crop I agree, not a lot I could do about the tree as I wanted the moon in the shot!

That's better !

Strange feeling waiting for the nights to draw in in the middle of summer:nuts:

Mono are you sure:lol: Thanks for the comments and good to see you back.

I love the concept although as said it is just a little dark :D

Thanks Ruth

Ok so slightly obvious this week and yes I pushed the saturation a bit, well they are highlighter pens after all:lol:

Thanks for looking.

aghhh can't change the thread title anymore...

I would prefer the background to be white but its a really clever shot, I would put this under the catagory of ,wish I thought of that.

Super idea.

Thanks Hyster and yes I agree I've not managed to control the b/g nearly well enough. Will have to consider a white tent to shoot into.
