Marks 52 - Week 26 Night

Lovely shot of, as you have illustrated, a very complex flower! Colours look okay on my lappy monitor :)

Nicely in focus - might have been tempted to rig up some darker backdrop to emphasise the colours of the bloom but as well I know thats easier said than done!

Nice image Mark

Good angled shot...always best to take flower shots at THEIR height and not shoot down at them I think...

Would be interested to hear what lens you used....you might have got a slightly sharper shot having not gone right to the limit of your lens, assuming here that it was an f/1.8, and I don't think it would have made too much difference to the background blurring...

Thanks John, you're right the b/g isn't great and I definately need to think about them much more.:bonk:

Thank you and yes I was at the limit of the lens. I did try stopping the lens down a bit, but the shot weren't as good. Mainly I think because it was actually quite windy. I looked again on Sunday but the flower had gone over:bonk:

I like this. Irises come in so many different forms, colours and sizes that they're complex as a type of flower. The form is the flower is complex, and yours has a complexity of colour. So, you've really nailed the theme, Mark..:)

To me the colours look spot on, and I like the oof b/g too. Very nice.

Jean

Cooeee, I'm back :D

Your 2nd Linear shot blows the other one away, superb :clap:

Emotion - great lighting, great capture, great happiness :notworthy:

Complex - Certainly a complex bloom and the DoF is great

Composition not quite right for me as it's too central/has too much space around it and the background colour does nothing to enhance the bloom. Perhaps a square crop or take some off the RHS as the flower is leaning to the right

Thought I'd post this whilst I still have the energy, just got in from finishing the Norwich 50 mile bike ride and I'm exhausted, driving rain, howling winds...I've had more fun...ho hum:lol:

Guys I will do a catch up later and think of some words for this week a bit later on, but for know.....enjoy time! If I had one of these I'd go back to 6am today and hit snooze:bonk:

I like this one Mark. Quite punchy and dramatic. Well done on getting out on the ride, riding in strong wind is never fun. Unless it's a tail wind of course!!

:D... I like it. It made me smile when I first saw it, and it fits the theme so well

nice take on the theme Mark.
love the angle you have used in this :D

Yes I'd remembered the daughter getting a game with one of these in but never got around to finding it...you did a great job with it nicely cropped and a good angle...and some brilliant lighting...:clap::clap:

Thank you both and apologies for not replying sooner, glad you like it. I take the point about composition, I've not got composing flower shots sorted yet, practice, practice, practice:thumbs:

Thanks Toothie, I'm not usually a fan of quirky angles, but the shot needed it I think.

Thanks dizzy, as for the ride I'm still trying to work out how on a circular ride the wind was always a head wind:thinking:, but it was damn it:bang:

Ha good shot, like the angle!! I like how the blue stands out

Thanks Shorty, I boosted the contrast a bit and actually brought the blue down a bit as it was too much initially. :naughty:

:D... I like it. It made me smile when I first saw it, and it fits the theme so well

Thank you:thumbs:

Thank you, it was lit from 45degrees by one light on a softbox:thumbs:

Haha thats out of the (police telephone) box :)

The angle gives it a sense of Tardissian movement throough time and space (if thats a word) and the colours are nice and bright with punch!

Good twist on the theme!

:)

The colours are great, the angle and lighting are stylish - and it fits the theme. Ticks all my boxes - and adds a gold star, too.:thumbs::thumbs:

Jean

Thanks Jean....gold star cool, when do I get it:thumbs:

If Tardissian isn't a word, it should be:lol:. Thanks for the comments:thumbs:

Although I like your Complex shot I agree with Dark Star - a darker background would have given it more impact. Nice use of DOF though

Time - Inspired take on the theme - love everything about it! Great angle, lovely colour :clap:

I love your time shot

Great composition, very sharp and well lit too :clap::clap:

I remember as a child being too scared to look when the Daleks were on and used to cover my face

Definitely fits the theme.Well done, it´s my favourite this week so that´s another gold star :woot:

 from me too...

all been said above...^^^^^

Thanks so much for your comments folks, and wow a favourite shot of the week to boot:thumbs:. Shame this weeks effort is so poor, what a tough subject that was.... see below:bang:

Not happy with this weeks effort, not happy at all. But hey sometimes those are the breaks. This is Ewan reading one of the books that has inspired him and fired his passion for palaeontology.
What's wrong with the picture, well the filing cabinet, the lighting, the composition pretty much everything. But I'm up against the wire and don't want to miss a week so it's a case of one for the reshoot pile.

Thanks for looking...sorry it was so painful:shake:

i think you are being a bit hard on yourself tbh, its well exposed and you can see his expression and the book so a  from me :)

Your time shot made me smile, great idea and the tilt works well, I usually hate tilt too.

The inspiration pic fits the theme well and is a good angle, If I was being really picky, the cabinet in the shot is little distracting but thats being really picky.

I agree with Toothie - the only glaring thing I would remove is the filing cabinet but you know that already.

Its a good photo....better than mine for this week ;)
Well Done

thank you fot the positive words, I am my harshest critic. A year ago I would have been happy with this, but not now, I've learnt to much from you good people to accept this image as anything other than a grab shot. I think I'm more annoyed with myself for not making the time to do this properly, it really was a case of get what you can and get it uploaded.
This week will be different, I'm determined it will be better.

thanks again.

Mark

I agree with Toothie - the only glaring thing I would remove is the filing cabinet but you know that already.

It's not that bad...

Fits the theme and nicely in focus, just a tad of burn out on the nose.

But that's me being picky now...good effort, and I know what you mean about missing a week...:|

I like it, it fits the theme well, and again, just the filing cabinet, but you know that already. Don't be so hard on yourself ...

Definitely fits the theme

Good composition and great expression well captured but move the cabinet next time :D

Its all been said :) So I'll be lazy and simply agree with Jill :D

Its great that your lad has a good interest! I hope it goes from strength to strength :D

I can really identify with this Mark - and it always leaves me feeling dissatisfied with my shot. However, in this case you've got a well composed, well lit shot with Ewan looking relaxed and interested in his book. Yes, the filing cabinet is a small niggle - but that's all - it doesn't ruin the photo!! :nono:

So - :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: from me. :)

Thank you all for your comments, I still don't like it but I do appreciate your comments:thumbs:

I was determined to plan this weeks shot with more time and care than last weeks.
There is a building site outside my work at the moment and I thought it might be interesting to chart the development of the site. So I decided on a panorama of the site. I was all set to post it when I chanced upon this today. It's a more subtle interpretation I think.

The panorama is on my flickr if you want to see the banked shot.

Another shot I like and I've only looked at two...:D

Fits in perfect with this weeks theme, and a great find...

Well, nobody could argue about the appropriateness of this for the theme. :D

Well spotted. I like the composition and that's a great sky. For me a very tiny niggle is the grass cutting across the notice, but then - that's how it is and for every picky fusspot like me, there are probably loads of people who think it looks natural and 'right'. :):thumbs::thumbs:

Just off to have a peek at the building site! :)

Jean

Thank you all for the comments, I will reciprocate soon. Jean I did think about cloning the grass out, but decided it was to tricky and yes I decided it looked natural.:)

Mark:thumbs:

Very nice Mark. I really like it and it's very clear fit to the theme. I think I agree with Jean about the grass, and, if I'd spotted it during the shot might have removed it, but I doubt that would have happened... By then of course it would be too tricky to remove it, so I'd probably have left it too :D...

Thats what I call jammy, finding a sign like that. well done. Only quibble I would have is it looks a tad underexposed on my monitor ;)
