Marks 52 - Week 26 Night

Thanks Jean, glad I didn't make it boring....;)
It's amazing what you can achieve with a kit lens a close up filter a bit of black card some letters and well errrrr a studio light and black reflector!!:thumbs:

Great shot to fit this weeks theme...

Nice and colourful one from you this week...

Both my wife and daughter play the flute so the idea for this shot came to me in a flash. I would have liked to got a shot of them playing, but I ran out of time to get the shot set up.

I'm not very happy with this to be honest, the focus isn't quite right and I've lost the page into the b/g as well.

I've not achieved what I had in mind and don't have time to repeat the shot..... ho hum

Mark:thumbs:

ooo i like that, it kind of blends in as it disapears - if that makes any sence at all. anyway i like it.

I also like this shot, the flute is such a beautiful instrument as well, and they are both nicely in focus, which is what I want to look at.

This works for me.

I agree with Ruth and Angela - the focus works for me. :)

imho, the 2 instruments and the music is a more sublte shot than a more conventional shot of the people playing them. It fits the theme beautifully - it's clearly a duo wihtout actually 'saying' so. (No offence whatsoever to your wife and daughter - who I'd love to see playing their flutes, my comment is just in terms of the theme for this week.) :)

Jean

Great effort Mark, very good take on the theme.

Great subject and well handled.

Excellent shot Mark. My eye leapt straight to the Duo of flutes (I'm not biased... :D... I play too) and I love the way the book fades out...

Oh very good Mark  lovely crisp, clear and to the point shot, really pleasing to the eye

:agree: That's a great idea and well executed....

Isn't amazing how we are always far more critical of our own work than we are of others. :rules:

Thank you for the kind comments folks, I'm still not convinced about this attempt but will happily stand corrected.

As DS said - next ....

And a comment before I start - stop being so hard on yourself or I'll send the gang round :bat: :bat: :bat:

Up - does what it says on the tin and the DoF is spot on :clap:

Letter - kids eh...... a colourful shot and well focused, and I struggle with side lighting too. :(

Duo - my favourite of the three. Your eyes are drawn to the flutes and the background fades into the background so it's not distracting.:clap:

Repeat after me - I will stop being so hard on myself!!!!

I think you are rising to the challenge week after week, and it doesn't have to take ages to get a good picture (I should know ) but I think that we sometimes feel that if we don't spend a lot of time on it it isn't good enough.

Thanks Jill

I will stop being so hard on myself
I will stop being so hard on myself
I will......nah it doesn't work when you can copy and paste!:D

Thank you for the kind comments, I suspect that when we don't achieve what we set out to achieve we can sometimes forget that what we end up can be good too.

Mark:thumbs:

Very, very nice. I hope you've changed your initial appraisal. I think you'll look back on this in a few months and be very pleased with it indeed. I know I would!

Ok ok I give in it's bloody excellent........:naughty:

Thanks folks:thumbs:

Anyone else seriously struggling with thus weeks theme at the moment

Wow that was a hard subject. This is the best I could manage. Shumba is 15 weeks old now and longs for sunny days so he can sun bathe. Here he is waiting or longing for the sun to come back out and warm him up again.

Comments always appreciated.

Mark:thumbs:

That's a lovely shot you have taken Sir...:clap::clap:

I like it a lot...well done...

just one tiny bit I would change would be to lose the bricks and crop just below the ear...but I still think it's very good...

Thanks Spartacus, see what you mean about the crop.

He looks so calm here, he got given a bath about 30mins later, no pics I'm afraid 400d's are that waterproof.

Mark:thumbs:

Thats a nice sharp colorful shot mark, shumba looks to be growing well..

md:thumbs:

Thanks Dave.... he's not some much growing as expanding at the speed of light.. mind you with the amount of food he eats (sorry inhales) it's hardly suprising.

It's hard to be objective about a photo when the subject is as totally gorgeous as Shumba.:love:

I guess it isn't easy to get him in one place for more than a second, either.

Yes, I'd crop the bricks out from the bottom, too. It would have been great if he had gazed up with those soppy big eyes and given you a nice mournful look .... a training exercise?

After all that rambling - well done, it meets the theme very well.

Jean

Thanks Jean, your comments are appreciated and no he doesn't stay still for long.

What a lovely and relaxed looking dog Mark. The shot fits well, but I agree about the brick, although, I'd say he's longing for the clouds not to slide over and cover the sun up again :D.

Excellent shot, perfect execution, great idea. p.s gorjuss doog!!

that's a great shot of your dog Mark, you can almost see him thinking i want to be out there in the sun :)

I'm a bit late to the party but I agree with everyone else - Duo is a damn good shot - love how you've used the music as a backdrop and the DOF works well

Longing - I'm now longing to come steal your woofer. He is lovely and I think you've used the light well to bring out his colour. I too would crop the bricks out but that is my only crit.

Thanks John and yes you're probably right:thumbs:

Thank you:)

Bless him he got as far as the door and slumped down, he just couldn't be bothered to move any further.... I treasure those moments as most of the time he's bounding around with youthful energy:lol:

What a hansom dug, you have a great subject to work with there.

Agree with Jean about cropping, good pic though, well done.

Hi Mark, what a great picture of Shumba, he's grown such a lot since we first saw him. I love the way you've captured the colour of his coat (certainly didn't look like he needed a b..a...t...h :D). I agree with the crop but apart from that, a great shot :clap:

Nice longing shot...great exposure and focus...super!

(will jump on the band wagon about the lower crop!)

Thanks for the kind words all. I have cropped the bottom off the picture, but I ended up losing to much of the dog, so I'll have to wait for another chance and get it right in camera:bonk:

Mark:thumbs:

Dark...hmm how do you portray dark? Inspiration was again lacking this week. Until I passed the chocolate whilst shopping. It doesn't come much darker, or more bitter, than Lindt 85%.

This was supposed to be a product shot, but the b/g has let me down. I need to think about how to achieve a cleaner background in future.

Still hanging on in there... a third of the way through:eek:

Mark:thumbs:

Love your take on the theme, as you say the b/g lets it down a little but the image is well exposed and extreally sharp :)

:woot: great minds think alike :woot: Certainly fits the theme but I see what you mean about the background. And a third of the way through :D I hadn't realised. A big hand to all of us who have kept going :clap::clap:

Damn it. Someone who actually used their brain and thunked up a clever idea, and did do make it into a lovely picture

:bang:

Well done Mark!

Thanks Toothie, not bad for a kit lens is it!:)

They certainly do, although yours thinks better as the b/g is better. I may yet reshoot this as a result!

Well done Mark!

Thank you Shorty and don't get to worried, we all struggle from time to time, work through it and you'll feel better for the sense of achievement:thumbs:

Mark:thumbs:

Well done Mark, superb idea, well taken, the background isn't ideal, but it's not too bad either... and the chocolate is very nice too

Why didn't I think of this? It's my favourite chocolate. :bang:

Great idea and dof. Well posed, too. Backgrounds are a problem, but this isn't intrusive.
