Marks 52 - Week 26 Night

Very well done Mark. Clear, clean, crisp. He looks like he's about to say "go away, Dad! I'm trying to do my homework, it's hard enough learning this stuff anyway!"

My thoughts exactly :)

Lovely clean shot - well composed and shot! And meets the brief perfectly :)

Good one and well done to Ewan for agreeing to pose

Welcome to the world of studio lights, Mark

Lots of plus points here - good catchlights in Ewan's eyes, good highlights and shade on his hair, whites not blown out, 'clean' background without shadows. Ok, so he doesn't look a happy bunny, but the poor lad's doing his homework! Did you try offering double pocket money this week? That usually gets a smile.

Well done,

Jean

Thanks for the comments Jean.

Double pocket money, 0 x 2 = 0 :D.

;)

you know my thoughts:thumbs:

I do and thank you

I'm jealous I want some studio lights

I think you've done really well, the catch lights in the eyes are great, focus is spot on, and you've done really well to avoid the white shirt from blowing out. If this is your starting point I'm looking forward to seeing what you do later in the year when you've got the hang of them

Fits the theme nicely

Do you have any of him concentrating on his homework (perhaps chewing the end of the pen) and ignoring the camera?

Thanks Simon I'm really looking forward to using them more. Never even thought about the white shirt, proabably a good job, I'd have panicked:bonk:

I do have some with his head down concentrating yes, and he's always chewing his pens... drives me mad. Mainly cause I look at him and I see me.

Great shot Mark, very crisp, and fits the theme well. Jeangenie said it all really.

Thanks Bruja

 I did get that yes, thanks for the comments

Thanks John, much appreciated:thumbs:. I'll pass on your comments to Ewan.

I think thats a really good shot, well done.

Thankyou

works for me

Thankyou.

Now then who thought Surprise would be a good theme:bat:. I needed the camera in front of me when I read that. This isn't going to get any easier is it

No better subject than kids when it comes to a project on learning. Love his expression :)

Learning & kids go hand in hand

I read you put he doesn't relax in front of the camera, but I have to admit the first thought for a caption was more like 'b****r off I'm trying to learn here'

Cracking portrait Mark.

Thanks for the kind comments folks:thumbs: Just need to get my house move sorted know and I'll have somewhere for the studio lights to go, instead of deconstructing the living room:)

Cracking shot....

wouldn't know where to start with studio lights..

well done

Love the shot, my comments have been said by others.:thumbs:

This weeks theme was difficult, but not as bad as next weeks.

A really nice portrait and hopefully by the time you've finished practising your son will be extremely used to posing for you!!

Really great that you were learning something new whilst taking the shot.

Thanks for the continued kind comments folks, glad you like the shot. I'm really pleased with the way this came out, especially given it was my first time setting up and using studio lights. I can only say a huge thanks to MD who has offered me lots of constructive help and advice over the last few weeks. Thanks Dave:thumbs:

Don't make me go public Dave:naughty:

House move is moving on a pace at the moment (fingers crossed it stays that way) so photography may take a back seat for a while and I'll definately be off line for a week or two. The 52 will continue though, I just need to find away to pick up my e-mails.

Can one of the next two weeks challenges be stress please, I've got lots of ideas for that:bonk:

I've decided to post a shot early again, mainly because with the impending house move chances to get shots are going to difficult over the next couple of weeks:shake:. It could be next week it could be the week after but I know I'll be without TP for a a couple of weeks until the broadband is sorted:eek:. I'll be able to log on at work and pick up the challenges, just won't be able to upload my pictures... but I will take them in the week they are set:rules:

So onto this week, Surprise..... to right it was, heres my humble effort.

OK so I put it there. It had me stumped for quite some time, but Louise my wife planted an idea, which I developed and this is the outcome. How many of us have lost things down the back of the sofa, only to find them days, weeks or even years later! I know I have, but sadly never a £10 note or winning lottery ticket. Not yet anyway:lol:.

Onwards and upwards:thumbs:

Mark:thumbs:

Thanks Marc, flowers you say, they'd just get packed at the moment, but maybe when we're moved! ;)

Question is how many people are now checking the down the backs of their sofas!:naughty:

Find anything:shrug: I want commission:naughty:

Good interpretation and an everyday scene. My son ( 2,5 yrs ) is hiding various things behind and under our sofa. Sometimes things come up I hadn´t thought of for while. That´s then always a great surprise. :)

That is a clever idea well executed Mark :) Once again 'simple' works :D

I'll be rooting round sofas tonight !! :D

Thanks for you comments:thumbs: Wait till you're son finds the cd /dvd player and posts things in there. Then the fun really starts:naughty:

Thanks John, good luck with your search!

Well done Mark, good intepretation and nice and simple.

Plenty of cat hairs. PM me your address and I'll post them to you. :D

That's ok I've decided to waive my commission on this occassion:lol:

Had it not been planted that would have been an excellent surprise. I like the way you've left the cushion at an angle and in view, I'm not sure it would have worked as well if the cushion had been removed completely.

Good luck with the house move.

I love pics of industrial buildings, especailly when they are in a poor state of disrepair. So I really like this history pic.

The surprise picture is also fab, great thinking.

Thanks jgs001. Simple that's me:D. Although the effort that went into getting the shot was somewhat more complicated, but I'm learning the benefit of the histogram.

As I pulled back the cushion I half hoped to not have to plant a tenner, but unfortunately that's my luck. As a friend says, if I joined a marching band I'd get the grand piano!

Thanks for the luck.......nearly there, nearly.

Thank you, I've discovered they're harder to photograph well than I thought, but that's an excuse for practice isn't it:thumbs:

Nice idea, I like the monochrome conversion as it takes any distracting colours out of the equation.

Love it, nice and simple and as Staffitaxi says it wouldn't be 1/2 as good without the cushion in place

I'm not sure that the B&W conversion quite works, although I don't know what colour your sofa is

Thanks Simon, the sofa is beige and in colour the photo looked a little flatter, besides I'm loving mono conversions at the moment, don't know why I just am:nuts:

Thanks Ed:thumbs:

great idea and really well done! Nice to see another b&w in the mix!!
