Thanks for all the kind words folks, I stumbled across both of these shots so I guess I got lucky! :)

I have lots of ideas for this weeks theme, unfortunately I've passed my cold / flu onto my poor wife so I know have a much better appreciation of how kept I am!:rules:

Made the mistake of thinking this would be easy. It might have been but for this persistent cold :bang: Best of a bad bunch this week... I haven't controlled the light nearly well enough.

This is a really nice shot! Did you do it in a studio? I love the way your subject jumps out against the white background, and it's really nicely lit too.

I think you are being a bit hard on yourself - I really like this weeks shot. I don't know anything about studio lighting but it looks good to me, and it's nice to see a different take on the theme... I think we will have a lot of close up bubble shots this week (including mine!).

Thank you and sort of. ..MD.. very kindly gave me his old white sheet and I had a play today. Temporarily fixed it up in the garage and lit it with my Lencarta Studio Lights. Need lots more practice!

You're probably right, I'm my own biggest critic, always seeing things that could be better. Still I hopefully it drives forward improvement.
 
I really like the composition on the Bubbles shot. Lighting looks good to me too! :)
 
Bubbles looks like a really fun shot! Love it. Really well captured and framed.
 
I really wouldn't have a clue how to go about getting a shot like this. It can't have been easy to freeze the motion, but you've done a brilliant job of it.

Really good interpretation of the theme - as has been said it's nice to see one of us doing something different with it.
And the lighting looks pretty good from where I'm sat too :thumbs:
 
nice shot....

a little tidying up with the clone or spot healing brush in photoshop will get rid of the couple of shadows on the floor ;)

just wonder what it would have looked like with a black background - might have made the bubbles show up better...you have to look quite hard to see there are are least 3 bubbles....

saying that you have caught his expression brilliantly!

wish I had a garage so I could set something up like this....very jealous...
 
Well done Mark. That's superb. The expression is wonderful. The only thing is, it's hard to see a couple of the bubbles against the bright white.
 
I agree with everybody else, a lovely shot and one for the family album. A tad overexposed if i'm to be picky :thumbs:
 
Spot on theme Mark and a nice twist too. Nice to see a different interpretation so well done you :clap::clap::clap:

Love the facial expression and the composition is spot on and sharp in all the right places emphasising the movement of the hands while everything else is still. :thumbs:
 
Thanks for the all the kind comments folks. I will get round to commenting on your shots soon, unfortunately the cold I had, took a turn for the worse and I've be laid up for a couple of days, yesterday was particularly unpleasant as I passed out whilst making a cuppa, luckily the cuppa didn't land on me! Woke up on the floor with the dog licking my face:eek:.
My mum phoned later in the day and when I told her she said, oh how distressing for the dog!:lol: (she loves me really) Feeling better now though so will try and catch up with you all and get a shot for low down:thumbs:
 
Ok so I've managed two low down shots. I can't decide between them so I'll throw it open to the good folk of TP. :thumbs:

Shumba has started to show real signs of calming down and is much quicker to accept his place in our family these days..... a huge sigh of relief as at 10 months old and about 7st being bouncy and constantly challenged by him wasn't much fun!

A plus side is that he is easier to photograph, this is him pretending to lie down for a treat! :lol:





I pp'd out the rivers of slobber from his mouth whilst he waited patiently for the treat on the floor in front of me:rules:

Excellent photographs! Really close call. I think I prefer the second because I find it a more interesting shot. But I like the angle in the first one too... so maybe I prefer the first one... I dunno :thinking:

Both get a :thumbs: though! And I love the way the colour of the dog and kitchen kind of compliment each other!
 
Difficult to choose but I think I prefer the first one. I love the pose and the suggestion that Shumba is about to lean forwards and plant a big slobbery tongue on your lens! (Did he?)
 
#2 might be my fave, but I have to say, the background is really quite distracting for me and it's a shame.
The lighting is good - but also in #1 is casting over his [gorgeous] face a little to much, for me personally

I'm really struggling to pick a favourite out of those two. I love the tongue poking out in the first one, but overall I think the pose in the second shot works better . . . but then the first one has that lovely glint in his eyes.

I like both of them, and with such a gorgeous model, it would be hard to find a photo of him that I didn't like.

Photographically it is shame about the background . . . even though you seem to have carefully colour co-ordinated him to your kitchen ;)
But he's such a cutie that I don't really mind. I could look at dog photos all day, so thank you for sharing those two.

Thank you and welcome to my world of indecision. :lol: Can't take credit fro the colour co-ordination as the kitchen was inherited when we moved in to the house.

Thanks for the comments Shorty and I agree, I should have got into the garden, I've been feeling so carp though that I just needed to get something. I did pp him out and put him on a white canvass, but he was sort of hanging there a bit like bricks don't (as Douglas Adams would have said)

I'm liking #2 better now because of just 1 little niggle I have with #1. The blown out window in the background is just ever so slightly distracting. So #2 just slightly pips it at the post!
 
no2 for me but I think you may have just missed the focus on his eyes but at f2.8 there is nt much margin for error....if it's a true portrait shot and not a crop - did you change to the focus point over his eyes?

Bubbles: Excellent timing to get this shot. Well done. The slight bit of over-exposure could be sorted out in pp and might to show up the bubbles a bit more. Lovely action shot, though - I really like it. :thumbs:

Low down: I really just want to go Awwww ... He's such a handsome boy and you've caught great expressions in both shots.

For me the second one is the winner because of the way his ears are pricked up and the way he seems to be looking at his paws. So spot on for Low Down. :thumbs: His expression is great, and those great big paws are fantastic. :clap::clap::clap:

Wow how late am I and as a result I've not commented on anyone else's shots yet. Huge apologies I will catch up with you all.

My excuse for being so late is that I've been really busy doing some commissioned portrait work for some friends. I really enjoyed it and still have one more session to do. But it does mean that I haven't had the time to spend on my 52 or any other photography.

So here it is, despite being late it's not great, but I think the papers are so full of doom and gloom these days, good news just isn't newsworthy it would seem.

Both your low downs are corkers - if push came to shove I'd plump for #2 - you've done a great job of making him look huge :) (maybe he is :))

I like the colour of both and the 'symmetry' of #2 :)

And Doom and Gloom is spot on - crisp well composed and great B&Ws - and boy is that on theme :)

Ha thanks John, making him look huge wasn't tricky he's a 10month old 7 stone puppy, so huge doesn't really do him justice:thumbs:
