The net is just a 'good reference book' or a 'means of communicating'. Old folks still do the same kind of thing they always have IMO. My mum goes dancing with the girls, does lunch, drives herself up to Gardeners World Live and Malvern Show etc. And my old man collects stamps and plays bridge.

They both enjoy travelling, but will plan and book their own holiday via the net nowadays, download lots of info in advance, and then produce a CD of countless 'holiday snaps', rather than the 'old style' slide show.

Dont know if any of that helps at all :)
 
Lawn Bowls and Golf come to mind.

ALL those suggestions are a bit ageist if you don't mind me saying so. My mother is 86 but she wouldn't dream of being so lazy!

Older people have more disposable incomethan they have ever had in their lives. What is wrong with boats/yachts/fast cars - or classic cars? many of the people who have these are retired, because they can now afford those things they dreamed of in their youth......also shooting. Plenty of retired people go shooting and the seaosn has just opened.

waterskiing - I know of at least 7 retired folks who go waterskiing.
Kayaking - you would be surprised at the average age of sea kayakers. Mostly over 50 I would say, or at least approaching 50. About 30% over 60 and several i know again who are over 70 and I struggle to keep up....don't think of old/retired people as being past it. They didn't grow up in a lounge lizard society - they are as fit as fleas most of them.....cycling?

Cycling is on my list, my father in law does 100 miles a week at age 60, retired.

Its the target audience I am trying to connect with, and I don't *think* the target audience will be the super wealthy, however I may be wrong.

The oldies i know seem to play golf & watch countdown.

Gardening is also v popular, i agree that National Trust places & Gardens, eg Eden project, Kew & RHS Wisley are where older folk love to relax with afternoon tea.
 
How about an elderley couple playing tennis or something similar on a Wii with a mege plasma screen.

It shows energy, a bit of money and a tech outlook.
 
How about the shot of one of them cutting grass (OOF) and the lady bringing out a yummy pie from the oven.....taken from a kitchen obviously? or at a game of bowls :p
 
hastings, eastbourne? Don't all OAP's retire there? :D

B&Q have a policy of employing OAP's.

How about babysitting their grandchildren?

I had to think for a minute what you meant there.....i'm so slow :D

I think a good shot would be to get two older people on deckchairs on the beach (grandad and nanna) then get there kids or growns ups whatever they are now. and then have them sitting in front of the older people and in front of them have there children (older people's grandson/daughter) sitting looking back at grandad and nanna. And before you talk the photo ask the grandparents to look at each other and take the photograph from behind them, so as if you are looking in to the photo to see the others instead of across the photo.

Come on now. Are there only young people replying to this one? Oldies that I know go mountain biking, climbing, riding around in sports cars (2 seaters are fine now - no kids at home, man must have bald head though), camping, motor-homing, caravanning, adventure holidays to name but a few. Most of them though are still working as they can't afford to retire, either because their penison plan went bust or they couldn't afford to live on a measly state pension. Just some food for thought Gary.

Hmm......peeps don't want to think that all they have to look forward to in retirement is a park bench, golf/old mans marbles, even if when they get there, that's all they do.

I think you need a a healthy dollop of ridiculism.

:lol:.....just make it activity based rather than financial security.

I'd like to think that's what I'd be doing, I won't ofcourse, I'll be a bag of aching bones and ailments, but its a dream to sell.

My Grandad did skydiving,
Snowboarding causes enough breakages in young people,
The fishing think isn't even slightly ridiculous, assuming that they've done game fishing before. My neighbor did it in the navy (he retired age 73 having avoided compulsory retirement for 8 years)
 
Stepfather races round in Spain doing track days in his Americana, loads of expat retirees there.

Ladies what lunch ;)

Classic or marque cars always seem to whisper wealth
 
The ship idea is spot on - CRUISES. Plenty of retired people go on cruises.

Well I'm retired and you wouldn't catch me sitting around going grey or playing bowls. There's a lot of retired people out here in Turkey who go scuba diving, sailing, paragliding, water skiing and all manner of other fairly physical activities. Plenty of 50 and 60 year old are doing track days on bikes and in cars.

Remember that retirement often starts at 55 now (or even earlier) and we are absolutely not ready to throw the towel in, we're going to grow old disgracefully.

You just need photographs of active looking people with a good tan, good white smiles, hair (definitely not baldies) and good clothes. Get them doing something entertaining and exciting but not too strenuous. Forget gardening, that's just a boring necessity.

My brother has recently retired and like many, his goal was his "retirement home"; in other words, a year or so after his official retirement, he moved to a new house.

Thinking about it, the idea of "reaching your goal" when you retire would be a perfect portrayal, and gives you a lot of scope.

Well said:thumbs: We were on the summit of Cadiar Idris one day, when an old man staggered to the top refusing all help. It turned out he was 94 years young. His daughter had decided to put him in a nursing home, so he had drawn all his money out of the bank and ran away. He was climbing every mountain in Wales until he died. That was 2 years ago, he's probably doing K2 now.:D

Go for the modern approach Gary, remember the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin are old age pensioners now. Your original statement was "net savvy". I teach IT skills and I can tell you that the OAP's are far faster on the uptake than some of the young people that I teach. Don't portray them as "has beens", portray them as "still goers".
 
What about a selection of shots, retired couple, out for a meal, driving to the theatre/cinema, entering the theatre/cinema, enjoying a drink?

oh and on the subject of enjoying the english country don't forget to supply your chosen models with an umbrella or two.
