Hiya guys.

Just wondered what sort of market there was for Birdy photographs, if any? I'm just trying to start working how I'm going to pay for my next bit of kit, and bird photographs are really the only thing I'm good at, plus I think I might (might I say!) have a few salable ones already. But I can't think who would buy them  One of my friends has asked for a print of one my shots already - and has insisted on paying me £2 plus printing costs even though I wasn't going to charge him for it.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Ewan

most nature reserves have a shop that sells bird seed coke chocolate ect.

maybe frame a few good pics up [in cheap but nice frames] and put a pice on them and ask if they would consider selling them and you give them some of the profi.

eg; one a4 print 1pound to develop
2pound for frame

sell for 10pound = 7pound profit

give the seller 2.00 hence 5pound for your new kit

but setting the price is your call

Thanks, I may give that a go. Thing is I'm quite a bit younger than lots of toggers on here, so I'm not sure whether they'd even consider it - regardless of the quality of the pics. Good idea though :)

you have some lovely shots on your flicker acc, I'm sure that you could sell some if they were framed, perhaps you could tout some around craft fairs and country park ranger stations...we have a ranger station in our local country park that sells bird prints etc.

That sounds interesting. I'm going to try and find somewhere that sells nice simple wooden frames. I want something that looks good but isn't too costly.

sounds good and as you say that you are a younger member...you may escape the taxman, if thats humanly possible..lol

I hope no one minds me bumping this - seems to have gotten lost and I'd really like to hear people's opinions :)

no probs at all ewan

you get out there and sell sell sell

have you a local paper?

e mail the editor and ask for the picture editors e mail address send him or her some pics and ask if they would be interested in publishng any pics.

[they wont even know your age just your e mail.]

most local papers print a local image on a weekly basis.

thats howi got my first published pic

just bombared them with shots

good luck

local events carnivals fetes ect

new things opening parks

local landscapes

local places of interest eg town centre clock tower, nature reserve, rivers seaside anything thats local

and of course your birds

Cheers.

There's a show/fest thing on next week actually - might go and get some shots of that. Some pics taken published in our local look like they've been taken by a 5-year-old with a compact!

when you take them e mail them in asap [on the day of event] cause sometimes theys send staff togs so your pics have to be great shots and in early for the next days paper!

keep us posted on progress

the pic editor on my local paper is great.

when i started sending him pics i asked for his honest opinion and he gave me some great advice
