Mark on sensor

Hmmmm! worryingly that reminds of the sort of pattern I have seen with fungus in/on a lens surface :(

I'll await others more sage views about it

Hmm . . . it certainly looks a bit like fungus, but cleaning the sensor should have cleared it if that was the case.

Are you sure it's not some fluff on on the mirror?

I haven't tried clearing it yet but the last camera like I couldn't clean and didn't want to spend good money on a lens cleaning kit if it is doomed

That thought crossed my mind too, it does look like fibers rather than mold.

Do you have a "rocket blower"? That's the first thing I try, before wading in deeper.

Indeed. A dirty mirror wouldn't matter of course, but a bit of fluff hanging from the mirror assembly would do it. A rocket blower should clear it as you said.

Have you got a sensor loupe so you can have a closer inspection

If it's fungus and it's between the High Pass filter and the actual sensor, using any cleaning kit won't shift it.

That is what I feared when mention was made of trying to clean and having seen it before on another body :(

Fingers crossed for it to be that rather than fungus, David.

Not that the issue is in focus! - but I suspect that the cause mentioned would be even less in focus.

Could be mould, though it seems rather more straggly than I'm used to seeing it. Could it be cement deterioration?

Why not take it into a professional place for a sensor clean?
I don't think it would be worth it to be honest.
However it is academic now I tried the blower and no good. I then used a cotton bud and it looks fine - I will post more tomorrow or Friday

If that's what you've been using to clean it, then it's quite likely to have been some fibres from one that caused the problem.

No, I have never used that before - I only used in desperation!

That's what I think it is, my old 300D was destroyed in a similar way

Now you've established that a wet/contact clean will shift the mark, I'd strongly suggest that you get a proper cleaning kit rather than using cotton buds. Not sure which is the best system these days.

As this looks to be sorted now, well done :D I just thought it might be worth adding...

With anything like this if it appears in pictures it's on or in front of the sensor and if it doesn't but you can see it when you look through the OVF it's in the optical path either on the mirror or focus screen or in the pentaprism mechanism somewhere.
