Hi all,

Since ViewRanger is being killed at the end of the month and the replacement, Outdooractive, appears to be trash in comparison, just wondering what alternatives people are using?

OS Maps has its own app and Alltrails seems to get good reviews. What's worth taking a look at?

I’ve moved to the OS app and it does what I need, you also get access to the website and can print maps off if required :)

Gaia GPS.

I used Memory Map for years, but recently have been using the OS app, and find it much better.

I have yet to migrate to Outdooractive from Viewranger. I had heard its not great, may have to check out OS.

I have only used this one in limited ways

Thanks all - I checked out the OS Maps app and it definitely seems like a pretty straightforward replacement for OS maps in Viewranger.

In my research I also came across Komoot which offers some quite nice free functionality for planning hiking routes including pictures of interesting stuff which is quite helpful for scouting purposes. I think I will also add the free version of this app to my arsenal to use in combination with OS maps, so plan and plot a route on Komoot, then use the full OS map in the field.

I was surprised I only bought two map tiles with viewranger but on migrating to outdoor active I have full OS for the whole country.
What are you wanting to do that viewranger was better at, is it the logging side.
I only really used it for the map availability on phone.

I think you may as well transfer anyway TBH

Yea I only really used it for the map availability on the phone as well but I found the UI of the new app to be really clunky and slow on my phone. They will probably fix it, but since I was only paying via a subscription rather than "owning" any tiles, I have no problem switching apps to something which works better right now.
