Manual or use an auto setting?

Hi Ivan

Thank you for posting a fantastic link -really liked the challenge test and found it very useful

Cheers !

I use manual settings on most of my shots just to learn how to work it

I probably use all the modes except auto, I'll will use the program (sort of auto) but I'll also use av tv and manual if I need to. It all depends what I'm shooting.
Actually auto doesn't do a bad job, I lent a friend a camera set to auto as she was shooting indoors and out and hasn't a clue about cameras, she came back with a half decent set of pics exposure wise.

varies between av, tv and manual for me dependant on what I want to achieve.

Sometimes I just dial in some exposure compensation sometimes I like to control everything so it all depends on the situation.

If the light is good on a motorsport day I usually set the iso to 160 and leave it there but it all depends on what I want at that point really.

The mrs uses tv most of the time

Like other's have said it depends on what you are doing.

Most of the time I use AV (aperture priority mode). Sometimes TV.

I use manual when -

1. Using any type of flash

2. Where lighting conditions are constant - allowing me to concentrate on focus alone and not exposure. Also makes batch processing easier.

3. In tricky shots e.g. shooting a person where there is heavy back lighting

4. When using anything else other than centre point focusing
