manual focusing on a wedding

Rarely. Only in situations af will get confused. Through harp strings or birdcage veils are the only two situations spring to mind

What Hugh said, although the Sigma 24-70 struggles for the first dance sometimes too :shake:, and thats my 2nd's primary lens.

Cheers guy's I asked as been offered a a really cheap nikon 2.8 zoom but the motor has stopped working, and I'm thinking my manual focus technique will not be fast enough although back in the day it was all i had;)

There's a world of difference between manually focussing with a MF camera and doing it with a modern DSLR.

The viewfinder is smaller darker and has no proper focussing aids. Some are better than others, but a consumer crop camera is nigh on useless.

I had a tag along shoot with a Samyang MF lens. Some nice images. But most were out of focus.

I unofficially photographed an event, a marquee lunch, last week using a Sigma 50mm f1.4 on my D7000. The lens was set at f2 and manual focus so that I could selectively focus on individuals and throw background and foreground out of focus, and the success rate was high. I felt much more in control than with autofocus. However, with the added bother of having to zoom, I don't know. I suspect it would be asking a lot.

I love MF but it depends on the lens you're using etc, my T ZE Zeiss is pretty sharp through the viewfinder, I only ever have trouble on Sigma lenses when using MF - maybe that's saying something?! :)

Well took my kit to work and had a play with manual focus around a busy office and workshop needless to it becomes hard work so will stick to autofocus and use manual as iys needed.
