Mansion tax

To be fair to the single mum, childcare costs are horrendous. This needs addressing as childminders will set u back around £35 a day per child. But totally agree, where is the incentive to work.

But if that single mum is unemployed and sat at home on benefits she won't need child care, as she should be doing it herself.

Yes, but take my wife as an example. Works 21 hours a week to fit around school time. Childminder for 1 child 3 days a week and sometimes the other in holidays. Think the cost is around £500pm. Almost half her salary on childcare. Now it's fine as we are a 2 income family, but if you were a single mum of 2 you would b worse off working.

If our kid was in child are every day it would be £800 per month. Add the fact my wife spends £300 per month on fuel due to her job being moved an hour away from home due to cuts. Add her student loan and there goes another hundred.

That means she would need a £21'000 job to break even. Luckily my parents have the kid 4 days a week, otherwise we would be laiming benefits. Is the attitude that a degree educated person who is very good in her field choosing to not work wrong? IMHO no as working for nothing is not worth it.

Reforms should start with affordable child care and move from there. But it is much easier to demonise rather than look at the real barriers to single mothers getting into work.
