although I have a fairly willing subject, my lovely wife-to-be Louise, I thought it can't hurt to get a mannequin head to practice on.

Could get a few wigs, try out some lighting etc.. something to play with when Louise is too tired

Shall I just use ebay to find one to my liking or is there anything I should be aware of? like reflective nature of a material etc..

None of them are very realistic in terms of skin and hair reflectivity, but they are still useful.

My suggestion is to pay a bit extra and get one with glass eyes. The ones with cheaper painted eyes are a poor choice. I know, because that's what I bought:)

Where did you buy yours from? a lot of results I'm finding are america stores. (though i may have misread you, if you never did buy the glass one!)

Sorry, can't remember. All that I remember is that it was from a German trade seller on Ebay.

Well spotted, I think that's the Company, although none of those currently shown are the one I have. But as I say, the one I have has painted eyes, which is less than ideal, it doesn't show the catchlights.

I have a male and female polystyrene head on the freebie section on classified - you don't say where you are - but its free to collect from Cheshire.

Not bad to start with tbh - but as Garry says they look like they have really bad acne with the polystyrene dimples ;-)

If I can find a box, I could courier it to you for a fiver to cover the shipping costs.

Thanks for the offer, I'm not sure I want one that much - if I did they are pretty cheap on ebay.

I'm a 'buy once' kinda guy :)

Plus I haven't got anywhere to store my lighting equipment, let alone excess props.

In fact, one of my umbrellas is used to stop lighting through the window reflecting on my computer monitor. The beauty dish is just stood in the corner of the lounge
