Manky lens - removing the front element

The engineers ones I posted a link to are stronger. Should fit nicely.

Thanks, think I might buy a pair, just to see if I can do this.

If not I can just draw circles with it :)

Was following this, and wondering if you had any luck getting the front element off in the end puddleduck?

No, I gave up, the lens took great shots, so decided just to leave it alone tbh.

A pair of marigolds?

After reading this post and this one on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikon18-70dx/discuss/ I found the perfect lens removal tool... The suction cup windshield mount for my Garmin auto GPS device! Sucked it right oto the front of the lens and it twisted out just fine. See the pics and details I added to the Flickr post.

I needed to take it apart badly. The lens had so much dirt and water spots inside from condensation, it was unusable. (In fact the D80 it was attached to died in the incident). I think this may have saved the lens at least.

:( That's a shame.

I was looking forward to page 7 of this thread, where you resort to filling it with water and putting it in the microwave :D.
