Manipulation and Printing advice

Many apologies if this is in the wrong place!

As Ive mentioned before, my friend has asked me to shoot her small wedding and the time is drawing closer :gag:

I have Photoshop installed, but im no expert - is there another programme that you all use that might be a tad easier for a novice like myself?

I could also be doing with some printing advice. Who do you all use for development and as its a wedding is there a certain finish I should go for? Any printing advise would be gratefully accepted!

Its in two weeks and im starting to get more than a little nervous - she doesnt expect much - just straightforward pics of the day, but I want to do my best for her. I can put into practice what Ive learned in the last month at college but im afraid the wedding party will get annoyed waiting for me to tinker about with the settings - ah well, we all have to start somewhere :lol:

Itr sounds like you're using film?

I'd highly recommend Colab, for no other reason than I used them for my wedding processing for many years. Ask for their Professional Package Deal - you'll pay more than the average but the cost is very reasonable for the service you get. A lab technician who actually knows what he's doing will actually assess the image and dial in the right colour filtration at the enlarging stage.

Glossy prints look absolutely fantastic, but handle them with cotton gloves till they're safely mounted in an album to avoid fingerprints. Both glossy and matte finishes scan very well if you intend to digitally process them, but avoid textured finishes as they can be a nightmare to try to scan.

There are easier programmes than Photoshop to learn - Paint Shop Pro is one and you can dowload a free trial version. Truthfully though, they all take a bit of getting used to, and swapping and changing, particularly in the early stages can be very confusing.

LOL - it was you mentioning 'developing'

Everything else pretty much still applies anyway- Colab do digital printing.
