Hello guys, I'm now at crunch time to upgrade my tripod. problem is which one... I hear a lot of very good things about the red snapper tripods here, especially the build quality, but has anyone had experience of the build quality compared to the manfrotto 190xprob? I've got £150 tops to spend so red snapper wise I'd be looking at the RS-324 & RSH-12 Head.

Any advice or experience will be greatly received! Thanks in advance!

I'd go for the Manfrotto, reason being I bought a Redsnapper last year and it broke twice with little usage. The leg locking piece snapped, so sent it back and it was repaired then shortly after it snapped again, but to give credit where credits due Joe at RS replaced it for a newer model. Not keen on the heads either, so bought a Frotto 410 geared head. If I was to buy new legs in future I will prob go for the Frotto 055xprob..

I've owned 2 manfrotto tripods,a 190XPROB,and a 055CXPRO3.both were fantastic tripods, and couldn't be faulted in any way.the 190 gave me 5 years of trouble free togging, but with the abuse it took,it was inevitable to give up eventually.the 055 was sold recently,as I had sold all of my camera equipment.

having recently bought a new camera,i decided to purchase a redsnapper RSF-284 and RSH-61 combo, and I love it.takes the weight of my D7000 and 70-300 VR with no problems.also love the fact that you get a carry bag, short centre column and adjustable rubber/steel spiked feet..all of which are extras with manfrotto.

the only thing I miss occasionally is the moving of the centre column from the upright, into the horizontal position,otherwise......!

I've recently upgraded to the 055 CxPro3 from a 190xProB (having switched to a bigger, heavier FF camera I needed / wanted the larger legs) and would have no problems recommending the 190.

I also have a redsnapper monopod - which for my needs is fine, but it somehow does not quite feel as good quality build wise as the Manfrotto.

You best option is to look out for a set of s/h legs - they come up reasonably frequently, and are often in excellent condition. You will save a load of cash to spend on a better head for the legs!

Thanks for all the info guys, different suggestions but so far ever answer is brilliant, I'd love to stretch to the 055 but my budget doesn't allow it sadly, was thinking for a 190 and a 804rc2 head, I think the only way my budget will allow a ball head ( which I would like ) is to go for a red snapper, but again I'm stuck with the dilemma of build quality, I'm not saying that I suspect the red snapper to be shoddy or anything, but as many have said, the manfrotto is a little ahead on build quality.

Naught wrong with Redsnapper build quality, ether the legs or the RSH-12 ballhead
Had mine for 3 years trouble free.

I'm so indecisive I'm annoying myself... :/

Wish I could see a red snapper in the flesh! Ive given myself until Sunday to make a choice!

I'd go for the manfrotto, the added versatility of the centre column would swing it.

Cheers stu, looks like ill be heading down that route, just got to man up and pass over the card details....

Get the Manfrotto ;) I had and still do have a Redsnapper with very little usage the locking collar inside the leg on mine fell too pieces and the biggest setup i used with it was only a 5D2 24-70 f2.8L on it at the time :|

Just got back from my local jessops, picked up the manfrotto for 95 quid, ( with 5% off code) and a 496rc2, for 55, I love it, and jessops Cardiff were super helpful, thanks for all your help and advice guys! :)
