Im looking for a manfrotto tripod anything up to £250 I'm 6ft so it has to be fairly talk, is there any particular ones anybody recommends? Thanks everyone in advance! :D
 
I'm 6'1 and have a slightly dodgy back. I use their 190 tripods with no problem. I sometimes extend the centre column a bit if the shot requires it but even just legs extended, it's tall enough for me to use without trouble. Best bet (as always) is to visit a decent photo shop and try the kit there but please, if you're using them as a showroom, buy from them!
 
Same here... always used 190 Manfrottos... Forget the derivative now, but there's a 190 that extents quite tall.. taller than the one I own anyway. If there's one tall enough for you, I wouldn't hesitate. I've had the same 190 for pretty much 20 years now, and it's had a hard, hard life. Still works flawlessly. I'm 6ft tall and have no problems, and mine wasn't the tallest 190 derivative at the time. I think the tallest one now is 140ish cm with the column collapsed and around 170 with it extended. You may want to check as that's from memory. Add the height of the camera to that and your viewfinder will be at eye level if you're 6ft tall.

I'm trying to remember the last time I used my tripod extended to its full height.
 
Thanks guys do the 190s come with heads or do you have to buy them separately?
 
Separately. They may sell complete kits, but generally, manfrotto is a modular system. Whack one of these on it, and you're good to go.
 
Heads are a matter of personal preference. I personally don't much like 3 way heads - others do and while I like ball heads, others don't! I also like my geared head but that's likely to put the whole kit above your budget. Again, if possible, try a few and see which YOU prefer.
 
Have Manfrotto recently released a new set of 190 tripods? Tall ones? The ones I've tried would have been totally fine - it my eyeballs were where my nipples are!

The 190XPROB is 122cm (without the centre column). That is 60cm below the level of my eyes. Add in 30cm for the camera and ballhead and it's still 40cm below my eyes. If I raise the centre column then I may as well try balancing the camera on a stick of aldente pasta.

The one I have has max height of 176cm extended, 152cm without centre column extended.

I had the 055XB for Christmas, it came with 804RC2 three way head too. Used it loads since Ive had it and would definitely recommend it. Sturdy and not too heavy either!
 
For what it's worth, I have the Manfrotto 055 CXPro3 (carbon, 3 section legs) with the 327RC ball head on it. OK, it was a bit of an indulgence, but I figure on buying a decent tripod once and using it for a very long time. And I never want to leave it in the car because it's too heavy to carry around. I am not as tall as you chaps, but I did some reading before my purchase which led me to believe that once you start to raise the centre section you compromise a lot on stability which will affect long exposure times, especially outdoors in the breeze. I've never had to extend my centre section, but I have had good success with rotating it and inverting it for awkward shots.

I have the 'froto 055xprob model (not carbon, it's aluminium) and find it just about right in terms of height, I'm 5' 11" if that helps. Very sturdy, not overly heavy (but would like lighter!), and does a good job. Felt the 190 wasn't quite tall enough.
 
Manfrotto 055XPROB, fully extended 68 inches and that is without a head on top. With a manfrotto 804RC2 head total height 6 ft, then add a camera on top of that. So to be able to look on the top of a camera you would need to be 7or8 ft tall

Heavy yes but rock solid and centre can be swung out sideways and even work at ground level

Another vote for the manfrotto 190
Mine is the carbon one you can set the centre column horizontal
brilliant for macro
I've used the centre column fully extended loads of times still pretty stable:)
 
I'm in the camp that never raises a centre column. I use a 055CXPRO3 with leveller and 410 geared head. Also just got a lighter set-up of 190CX3 and 054 ball head. I know my husband used to complain about an old 190 we had as it just wasn't high enough for him (He's ~6ft). I'd recommend a 055 if the budget allows, but the 190 series is great too.
 
Hi. Have a look at vanguard or collmann tripods. I'm sure one does a tall tripod.

The one I have is the 190Xprob More which is 140cm (centre column not raised) without the head.

I can't remember the last time I use my tripod set to my eye level! I have to say that I love trying to find a slightly different perspective, and a slight reduction in height can work wonders for some images...

Just a though ;-)

You can alway make a tall tripod shorter. You can never make a short tripod taller.
 
^^^ True ;-)That said I can't think of a time in the last 7 years that I've used a tripod at eye level... I guess I just must love back ache ;-)

Last time I used my CT313 I actually extended the centre column for the first time ever. It allowed me to shoot from over 2m high - just right for getting a top-down viewpoint for videoing people shooting archery.
