Morning all just a quick question! I really fancy a Manfrotto 410 Geared head but I've noticed they use a different head to the normal 3-way head and the small ball head you get on the Manfrotto Befree

My my plate fit or will I have to keep swapping the plates?

Thanks

I'm not sure there's any such thing as a "normal" head when it comes to Manfrotto. They have a variety of different heads and a variety of quick release plates.

The 410 geared head uses the same RC4 quick release system, and therefore the same plate, as my favourite 498RC4 ball head. It's a pretty bomb-proof quick release system and the plate is called a 410PL. However the Befree uses the inferior RC2 quick release system and therefore a different plate which is called a 200PL.

So yes, you'll need to keep swapping plates.

Bomb proof? I wouldn't say so. Use it a rain or near a water and a few drops will eventually make you disasemble, clean, relubricate everything. It's the s***ty metal they use.

Hoppy's solution is the one I use to homogenise my QR needs - all my supports and heads now accept the 200PL plates. I dare say that the Arca Swiss system is better but the costs involved in converting all my supports to it make the law of diminishing returns a significant factor!

im glad i went with arca swiss, but u do have a manfrotto tilt head on my monopod... with a arca swiss clamp on top xD
