in the market for a new tripod but cant seem to make up my mind between the Manfrotto 190XPROB or Giottos 9361B, the Giottos is cheaper and can handle more weight than the manfrotto but i am not able to view them as my local shops dont stock them, as anybody used any Giottos tripods and what do they think of them?

I do not have that Giottos model, but do have a MT9371 which is a heavy beast, build quality is superb, and I will be on the lookout for a lightweight/ carbon fibre one shortly.

Not sure what Giottos are like, but my trusty Manfrotto 055CB is still going like a good'un and must be about ten years old or more

Also the availability of spares is excellent, another point to consider

I've got a Giottos - two in fact, I've got a mini one as well as a full size version. Build quality is top notch, solid as a rock and sets up within seconds. I can't really think of anything wrong with it to pass on to be honest.

I have a Giottos tripod, a friend has a Manfrotto tripod. They are both very similar in build quality and functionality. My Giottos was a fair bit cheaper however.

I've looked at a couple in the flesh at Warehouse Express and was very impressed with the Giottos rang, although I don't know whether the model you mention was one of them I looked at.

They seem very well made and sturdy and built to last IMHO

I've got Manfrotto tripod and monopod and also bought a CF Giottos monopod from here. I ended up re-selling it, not because of any worries of quality, but because I preferred the latch catches on the manfrotto which could be adjusted single handedly rather than the twist system Giottos used on that product which was more awkward.

cheers for the replies still torn on which brand to go for, the availability of parts of the manfrotto is appealing i must say.

Not keen for the redsnapper ones cos like the above post i prefer the latch mechanism which Giottos has now started using too.

Does Jessops price match cos i know the Manfrotto 190XPROB is on offer at most stores for £85 for the xmas season but jessops still want £110 for it, plus i have a Jessops £20 so i could get it for £65 if they would price match. Which i`m not sure they do.

Jessops will do, but only with local stores within 10 miles..they may still ring their Head Office to get authority though :(

hmmm bummer.

I guess its down to 3 choices:

1. Buy Manfrotto tripod for £90 with jessops £20 Gift Card
2. Buy Giottos tripod for £69 with jessops £20 Gift Card

OR

3. Sell £20 gift card and use it to but a Manfrotto 190XPROB on offer at Devon Camera Centre which is £85

Anybody interested in taking the £20 gift card off me?

I've used the Giotto CF & Manfrotto 190 pods in the past. I actually think that the Giottos is more stable but the Manfrotto horizontal mechanism was much quicker for macro work. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Have a Giottos 9351B and a Manfrotto 055CX3. The latter is carbon and it is far more sturdy and slightly longer than the Giottos. The legs in the standard format are slightly wider on the manfrotto which gives it far more stability. Either will do the job but i do prefer the Manfrottos it oozes quality. The catches are also better
