Looking for a new Monopod (I have the Manfrotto 680B which I intend to keep as a spare) and I've come across the above which looks quite good. Details are Here. Digital Depot have ordered one in for me to have a look at, but I was wondering if anyone here has seen/used one and any opinions, especially about the usefulness of the retractable legs.

Cheers

I don't think it is meant to be used like a tripod but just adds some more stability to the monopod.

TBH this is what I'm looking for. Also, when I was at the polo on Sunday, I had to stand on the decking under a parasol and, because the decking was wet and slippery, I had to abandon the monopod and hand hold the Sigma 50-500. My back was killing me later on, hopefully those monpod legs will help in that situation.

I have a Giottos P-Pod which is basically the same thing.

It's not designed to take a great deal of weight as a tripod but is ideal for support and is great for using off camera flash on it too.

Also the legs attach at the neck of the monopod to give you a sharpshooter position fopr it too.

And it's designed to support up to 15kg as a monopod :)

I thought about the Manfrotto when I was buying from the Ffordes ex-demo sale recently (where it's £45+carriage), but decided against it due to reports of the legs jamming due to mud and grit.

A more robust option (in the foot department) is the Uni-Loc Duo Pro for £30-£35 from Ffordes. It would be less comfortable to carry and it has tightening knobs which would be less comfortable to use in cold weather and slower to adjust.
