hey all,

New to a lot of this but which head would you recommend with the Manfrotto 190XPROB Pro Tripod- i'm told its good and has a TIPA award...

thanks in advance

Depends what you want really but I settled for a Manfrotto 488RC2 Ball head on mine as I like the freedom of movement with a ball head and the fact I don't have to fiddle with lots of controls like I did when I had a 3 way head.

Would be useful to know what you're going to put on it - and what you'll likely use it for.
There's lots of heads, ball, pan&tilt, geared etc. They all have their uses.

I also have the 488RC2 and love it. Way better than my old 3 way head. The main thing I like about it is the speed of which you can move your camera into position and not have to worry about multiple handles..eg it is all controlled by loosening one know and then moving your camera to the required position.
Feels well built and has a nice quality feel about it too.

322RC2 is my choice. Very happy with the versatility and ease of positioning and the grip holds 5kg.

I'd recommend the 190XPROB tripod, I have one and it's great.

What about this one "Manfrotto 468MGRC5 Hydrostatic Ball Head":

Unfortunately not, had them over a year now, the center shaft on the 190 needs a little TLC, but other than that no prob's.

You can buy every single separate part as a spare though!

I also have the 322RC2 for my 190XPROB

I have the other Manfrotto, the 055 MF4, but it's nothing up to the Mini Gitzo, a superb and reassuringly expensive bit of kit.
