Manfrotto 057 Tripod - what do these bits do?

Just bought a Manfrotto MT057 C3 057 Tripod, after a steer from a fellow forum member.
Lovely quality and robust bit of kit.
The centre column top plate has 3 recesses, each with a small threaded metal insert inside, all angled upwards.
Cannot find anything in the instructions as to their function...
Any members available to offer opinion?

Pretty sure they're grub screws that you screw up against the bottom of the head to stop it unscrewing. I only use one on each head and use a drop of thread-lock to make it harder for it to unscrew itself (there might even be a bit of blue stuff on the grub screw).
