weekly Mandy's first 52 challenge 2014 week 52 added and all finished now

Close Watch - good close up with lots of detail, I don't mind the scratches as they show that the watch is used rather than being a catalogue shoot. I thought that all watches had to be photographed at 1:52 though :)

Hi Mandy, not much of a biker (more of a skiier really) so don't think there's much I can say, but your image is nice and crisp and clear.
I was amazed at how quickly you submitted your photo though!

i like the watch mandy. nice and bright and works very well in mono. good job.(y)

hi Mandy
Line - simple and effective .mono choice was good. nice detail in the surfaces
Play - good subject matter. #1 was a bit dark but #2 edit has gone too far and overwhelmed it I feel. #1 had a sinister abstract quality which seems suitable
Close - good subject. Top strap seems a bit clipped and personally i don't like the scratches. But good comp in the frame and good lighting of a difficult subject with all those sparkly bits, curves etc. (y)

Whoo , so i did. But with 7 pages of comment and only in week 3 you are a bit hard to keep up with matey :D
Simple shot which fits the theme. Generally good detail but lighting is a bit overdone in parts (seat, rear tyre). B/g a bit untidy and therefore distracting.

You obviously have a passion for your bikes and i have seen shots of them on your other thread, but IMO they tend to be record shots, which is OK if the viewer likes bikes, but as photos they can become a bit 'samey' . I am not an expert but they do seem good quality models, faithful reproductions, and I feel that you could use them in a more imaginative way by using different angles, different povs and lighting.

Sorry I just couldn't resist on that one, and yes I love my motorbikes be them full size or models. And to reassure you my models are good quality replicas, I don't do cheap tat. I am still working on finding lights so I can light up my light tent, but this togging lark is not cheap and I really need better lenses.

I am not sure that you really need better lenses ( but then who doesn't want them:D), your shots seem OK to me in that regard. Also a lot can be done with cheap desk lamps from Argos and such places at £4 - £8. To me it is more to do with experimentation and seeing what makes an impact. A couple of years ago i saw a video on Youtube about table top photography and, as chance would have it, the chap was using a model bike. With a few bits of card, silver paper reflectors, desk lights and torches he produced some excellent stuff. I have tried searching for it but among the millions of youtube stuff i can' t locate it. :(

I should really have a look at stuff like that as I don't have a creative mind I do struggle with that :(, but it's a work in progress. That's the whole point off my reason of doing this challenge, to help me to improve with my creativity. In order to be able to create an image that not only I like but others like as well.

Hi liking your watch shot. Not easy photographing shiny objects but you did good job. I dont mind scratches as it shows its been used.

Well we seem to be steaming along nicely with this challenge where has the month gone......... We are now on week 4 theme Bubble. This is something i have found challenging to do ( my kitchens a bomb site as a result )never the less i have had fun attempting to have a go at bubble. If you could take into consideration that this is my first ever attempt at bubbles when commenting i'd be grateful. My tools of destruction were my 600d, flash gun and me becoming an octopus in order to take the photos and make the bubbles at the same time. As for how i made the bubbles that was simple some water in the top off my casserole lid and some washing up liquid, And then a device created out off gardening twin in order to create the bubbles. I let the mixture settle before attempting to make bubbles with it and 70 odd images later below are my best attempts.

Bubble 1

PP wise for this image into photoshop cs3 image inverted and a single colour gradient filter added, then back to LR5 for finishing touches.

bub (4)-Edit

Bubble 2

PP wise for this image i upped the clarity, a little bit of sat and vibrance tweaks

Bubbles (9)

Bubble 3

PP wise for this image i selected the blue filter in LR5 and let it do it's stuff a bit of a crop, sharpening and noise reduction and job done.

I found that video -

By 'eck Mandy, you don't hang about do you!? I'm still thinking about a new angle on the theme.

Bubble 2 is the one for me. I like the wood, the rainbow effect and the tiny bubble in the bottom of the big one. I'm in two minds as to whether or not I would like it with a larger DoF so the wood was sharp. Good picture though, like it.

Thanks for taking the time to look, i may not be speedy for the next theme as my 600D has got to go off to canon :crying::crying::crying:

Hi Mandy. Your second bubble shot is great. Very nice indeed and is certainly on theme!

The other two aren't my cup of tea. The first doesn't seem to do anything for me and it isn't particularly obvious that it's a bubble and the third is too dark.

Kudos for entering three shots though, i have all on entering 1!

Thanks for taking the time to comment as I said I haven't done anything like it before so it was all trial and error. Won't be doing as reshoot for this one as my 600d has got to go to canon to be fixed.

Quick off the mark :)

You've done well for you fist attempt. #1 is a little OOF, was it a crop? #3 is a little card, but I do feels it has potential. #2 is my choice. Good detail, composition and a hint of colour.

Cheers.

Bubble - no2 is my prefered with no3 close behind. Nothing else to add.

Your too quick, the speed at which you can turn a theme around and produce such great pictures :-)

Thank you very much I thought I'd offer 3 to choose from as it was my first ever attempt at it. I forgot to mention that number one was a tight crop.

You were really quick at getting this up, but then going by how quick you were with your bike shot, I shouldn't be surprised.

I'm kind of in two minds as I like the darkness of Bubble 3, but Bubble 2 has more detail with the wood etc in the background too, making it more interesting.
You said it was trial and error as you've not done anything like it before, but you must be a quick learner as they look great (apart from bubble 1, not so keen on that. I think it's the green).

All in all, nice going!

Thanks very much for taking the time to look and comment, I think after looking at all 3 images I think I like 2 with 3 close behind it.
