weekly Mandy's first 52 challenge 2014 week 52 added and all finished now

Hi Mandy, nice effort. At first i didn't think it was that good (sorry!) but not i have spent a few seconds looking at it, it's pretty clever. I like the lighting and the shadow. Edit is a little better, but the first shot was good too. I like your style! :D

Thank you i will let you off for thinking it wasn't that good on first glance ( don't do it again lol ) I do rather like it in fact on second thoughts i do like both my images i took and played around with.

Hi Mandy, great start to your 52 (y)
I prefer the edits on both 'Line' and 'Play'
Line, compositionally very good, dark at the bottom leading the viewers eye in to the lighter tones at the top. Not sure if I'd have preferred a colour version but good choice all the same.
Play, could easily be a product shot, liking the contrasty feel to the image, the central composition is strong and works particularly well.

Good work

iain

Thank you very much for your kind comments :)

Play: 2nd edit for me, cant really fault it at all and really good idea / composition. My only small crit is that something is slightly off centre which can be seen in the shadow symmetry (not sure if its the lighting that was'nt perfectly square?... Good work though and I like it! (y)

I think that was my fault in the way that i had my camera in my hand as i forgot to put a cushion down on my very hard floor so things were getting a tad uncomfortable i did do my best to make it even.

shadows come across a bit harsh there, maybe further out from the wall might have helped, but I love the pop its brought to the buttons on the controller

Good take on the theme, i have to admit i did stare at my PS3 pad a few times.

Edit definitely looks better to me Mandy (y), it was lost in the shadows a little in the first image :)

Just to be annoying I'll vote for the original. I think the dark and, as someone said, sinister approach really suits the way you shot the subject. I could imagine this in a advert of magazine review of the XBox. Nice one.

Hi Mandy, another thumbs up from me on the edit of "Play". Love the colour on the buttons of the controller.

Thanks very much guys for your views means a lot to me.

Like the shadow great idea wonder what it would look like with a different colour background. :)

Odd - Good take on the theme. A little central for me.
Line - Much better composition on the second edit. Wasn't keen on the white vignette on the first.
Play - Again the second edit is much better with the lighting. I guess this is what the project is all about - learning and looking at things differently.

Thanks for the comments But the line in question is actually white and not yellow lol
I think this works really well in B&W. The wet road makes it too. I have something similar I tried editing a while ago but I think yours is a lot better :)

an xbox fan like myself. I like the brighter image although the dark one gives a sense of fear/suspense which suits the console as its black... Nice work Mandy...

Hi there I prefer the 1st play image had a gritty dark edge to it some thing a bit different

Great work

Thanks very much for the comments

Hi Mandy
Lighting is such a hard thing to master, I bought a book sometime ago called "light, Science and magic" which helped tremendously.

I prefer the original dark shot of the Xbox it gives it more of a sinister look!

Hi Mandy

Play......between to original & the edited version...original for it's slightly mean n moody look & the edited for the exact opposite ! Both shot could be used in a mag though . (y)

Being mega picky I'd prefer maybe a plain base to match the plain bg ? but it is being very picky
