I do like the idea of these shots, love the colours, feel this one is a tad underexposed, the white background needs to be brighter. Like it compositionally.
nice but a little dark for me![]()
LOL - smoke's like that and as the song says it gets in your eyes - have a good nights sleep Mandy![]()

They sort of float a bit for me Mandy, but well in focus nice and bright, guess you're a real biker girl![]()
I like what you were going for here Mandy, the only thing letting them down is that the light tent needs a little more light into or ideally through it so as to avoid the creases showing it, now I cannot be totally sure as I'm only on my iPad but it looks like there is a little bit of softness there, What aperture were you using? That said the softness could be down to the print on the models but they do look like really detailed models so I'm not totally sure on that front
Nice shots - how many models in your collection Mandy ?
When viewing on my lappy which is not calibrated they look very very bright to me i think i may have to re look at the calibration off my monitor. When viewing on my laptop the background is more noticeable so not so sure havent checked them full size on my pc tho to see what they look like on there will do that tomorrow and re calibrate my monitor if need be. There is some softness but i think that is down to my dodgy camera angle, the rossi bike was shot at 1/60 f4.5 iso100 and about 35mm dont ask me about the flash settings as my flashgun is not a proper canon flashgun its a yn 560iii
Could well be a camera angle issue, personally in the past when I've done this I'll usually shoot at a slightly smaller aperture in the region of f/8 ish it just makes the DoF that little bit broader
You should give still life light painting ago that is a lot of fun to play around with no use of flash just a torch![]()
It is something i plan to have a go at with one off my model bikes just need to buy myself a torch, What kind of torch would you recommend?
Oh that's a dangerous question to someone like me, in all seriousness when I've done my still life light painting in the past I've just used a small double AA maglite as you don't really need a massive touch or a highly power one but it does help if you can focus it

The level of detail is great you've totally nailed focus it looks to me sharp all over, the exposure on the model is perfect, but your going to need to try and light the light tent a little more, an option could be to do it digitally by merging two shots, one the background and one for the subject but I'm not entirely sure how convincing that would be ideally its the tent that needs lighting if not with flash you could pick up a couple of cheap desk lamps and use them as constant light with a little bit of on camera flash as fill light
Thank you for the in depth feed back i used a different angle for taking this photo tonight, i have taken on board what you said the other night about needing to light the tent up which i will sort out by getting some desk lamps when i have some spare cash. Also for this image i did try some different settings with in my camera but i am happy that there is nothing wrong with my calibration on my monitor. The images i took the other night looked odd my laptop due to me having the screen on that set to movie mode so it was very bright and in your face have altered that now so everything seems good to me.
I take it that you can see the ripples/creases in the light tent, as I can see via my iPad which isn't perfectly calibrated I will admit, but its near as damn as accurate as my perfectly calibrated monitor when checked side by side, that little more light into the tend will hide them which of course is the general idea of a light tent, that said I can see the changes you've made from the other night and it is heading in the right direction![]()
another nice detailed shot and TBH the background detail isn't that intrusive/distracting to me here
Liking the bike shots! I agree with the feedback about more light on the background, which would make them perfect. Great focus and detail on the bike which focuses the attention away from the ever so slight imperfections of the background.![]()

but ideally you need to give him a little bit of character give him a prop of some kind Looking at the size of him a tin of something would probably have done the job of propping him/her up assuming that your shooting from roughly this angle the tin would be hidden, I don't really have any technical flash help to offer as my use of flash is shall we say limitedbut ideally you need to give him a little bit of character give him a prop of some kind

White teddy is a clear and crisp shot Mandy , very nice

nice one - now try something that's not almost entirely black......![]()
