Yes
I've only been to Manchester once or twice so I don't know the area.

I will be spending quite a few days there working in late June-ish - based at Trafford Park (near the shops I think, near J9 of the M60) so I'd like to know good things to shoot

as it will be evenings I think perhaps cityscapes and the like will be best.

I'd prefer not to drive into the city centre so transport options would be good too (park and ride?)

so, over to all you north westeners

it's not too bad a city to drive round, specially in the evening time after the rush hour. There's metro from salford quays (near trafford park) which goes into the city center

If your in trafford park there's the imperial war museum, salford quays, the lowry bridge.

going into the centre there's the printworks with its neon signs, Piccadilly gardens and fountains, plenty of derelict places depending how adventurous you are. sure others will be able to recommend more.

ooo yes perfect - am I right in thinking Manchester has a canal rather than a river?

I seem to remember someone on TP took a pic in Manchester of an overpass - looked like it was in the city - ring any bells? going over a footpath IIRC

There's both, there is the manchester ship canal, the rochdale canal and the river irwell both go through the centre, the ship canal runs through trafford park and the salford quays.

excellent, strange that I know so little about Manchester yet loads about Leeds n Liverpool. (being a northern lass and all)

There's also Barton airfield on the other side (approx) to Trafford centre. Can be a good couple of hours.

The police helicopter is stationed there as well and I believe there is a walk way around the control tower which you can access and take shots from.

If your into the aviation photography there's the park at manchester airport with the stands to see the big birds on the runway, quite a way out of the centre that one though, an easy drive though.

nope not really into aviation, maybe at an air show - plus it will probably be dark.

Wow, I'm going to have to take a look around Manchester. I have a Man Utd season ticket, so I'm up that way a lot. Shame the seasons nearly over.

Give us a shout when your there if you like. I'm often in Manchester or Salford taking photos in the evening.

Forget the Manchester Wheel.....it has rolled away.

salford quays is a short walk from trafford park, good for an evening walk and good photo opportunities.

woulnt mind going for a photo walk as i live around the area

well it looks my stay has been cancelled, however I will be visiting Bradford and Wakefield (the bit on the M1) rather a lot instead

Interested to know your setup for these shots mate as they are fantastic. Im dabbling into nightime photgraphy now and cant seem to produce these kind of results.

Thanks, used a tripod for both, the wheel was taken on my 350D, took a few different attempts to get the wheel looking how i wanted it to.

shutter: 10 seconds
aperture: F22
ISO: 100

The museum was taken on my 50D

shutter: 3.2seconds
aperture: F8
ISO: 400

And just some levels adjustment and a sharpen in photoshop CS5.

Post up some of your attempts for comment and crit and you'll get plenty of tips and pointers from the members on here on how you can improve.
