Manchester Toggers

I live 25 miles north of Manchester and have been in to the city many times. Never had a problem or felt a threat at all while in the city centre. There tends to be a lot of photographers in the area around the wheel and St Ann's square

OK I would not go into Moss Side swing my camera about, and no chance see me in there on a Saturday night.

:) Jimmy, by and large I've no problems with most of the city centre for taking photographs on my own.
The thing with me is I'd love to walk around Ancoats, which still retains a lot of it's Victorian character but is quickly being redeveloped and will in the near future be lost.
The problem with Ancoats is it's 'Bandit country'...I suppose you could call it the 'traditional' route taken by the gangs of Salford and Cheetham Hill into the city centre.
Granted you would have to be unlucky to run into any trouble and it certainly isn't as bad as it used to be, but none the less not a place for putting expensive gear on show.

Anthony

I did a portfolio shoot there the other week! Just me, the singer, my 1D and assorted lenses and flashes...a Man City match had just finished too and we had loads of people taking a short cut through all the mills! Didn't have a problem at all.

It was 5pm on a Sunday though, not really 10pm on a Friday or something...but still! :)

I live North of Manchester (Accrington) and work just off Deansgate, and would definatly be up for a meet..

As a newbie, I'd appreciate all the help/ C &C given while out and about.

Oh, have car, can pick people up- and we have secure (free) parking in town if people need it outside our office..

Ancoats used to be a haven for down and outs but they have all moved on, because its been part redeveloped a lot of the area is all new. There is still old mills untouched and even old buildings and pubs that are no longer in use that make subjects. If you go behind the old printworks (where they did the papers not the new boozer place in town) and walk towards toys r us etc you will see a lot of Manchesters history. I might head out tonight when everyone has gone to bed for a look round with my camera.

Stockport has a lot of untouched buildings too, all round underback is still untouched by modern builders.

I also live in Manchester and I'd be up for a meet sometime :)

I'm a manchester photographer.

or at least very local to it via train!

Hi

Just out side Manchester, Droylsden for my sins. Me and the girlfriend would be interested in walk round town, just remember i take longer using manual focus, much cursing goes on too.

You spend all that money on a 1D3 then manually focus...? Want to swap it for a OM10? :naughty:

haha, well the 1d3 has been in for the """"fix"""" so i need to go to Reddish Vale and get some Kingfisher action in soon.

Aaah one of them! Haven't been there for a while...am popping to Happy Valley in Bramhall for some kingfisher action in the morning though :)

Cool, must have a drive up there too sometime. Might try this week as i am on nights anyways.

Good luck

Just to bump this thread, I'm a Manchester local also - I live in Flixton, near the Trafford Centre. If there are any meets could somebody notify me via Flickr? I'm a bit unreliable on the forums! Be good to meet up in numbers though!

Another manchester tog checking in. I live in West Manchester, about 15 mins from the city center by car.

I'm in Manchester, well Saddleworth actually but I'm usually found in Manchester on a Saturday. Taking photos or shopping...or both.

I've always felt safe with my camera in the city, and I'm always on my own. I think I'd feel more awkward in a group.

Anyway, a pic of me...not very good but I happened to take this yesterday before I saw this thread...I would have made more effort if I'd have though I was going to post it on a photography forum, lol.

Nice photostream Stellarbeam, really like your Dovestones as im up there a lot and your pics are better than mine :D Gutted I missed Alter Bridge at Zavvi though!! Miles Kennedy is going to be fronting Led Zepp on tour if rumours are to be believed.

Aww...thanks:)

Alterbridge were really good. I only went to take photos, I didn't really know their music. It was the first time I ever heard the song Hallelujah (I'm slow, lol) You could have heard a pin drop in there! Stunning!!

Live in Oldham, work in the city centre and can usually be found lurking round Saddleworth at weekends (well Saddy Rangers).

Keep meaning to get out and about at lunchtimes but never do. Perhaps with better weather I may just drag myself from my desk.

Get the rugby season over and I'd be up for a meet at weekend.

Great thread! I go to school in Manchester and I go out togging quite a bit. Here's one I got (I hope camcorder-oggers count! :p):

A TP meet sounds good!

Well you all ignored my meet suggestion, so I'm moving to the Liverpool toggers section to see if they are a more friendly bunch.....;) :D
