All being well I'm going to be in Manchester from the 2nd to 4th March, at a conference for work. I'm sure that I'll manage to get some free time tho' for a spot of photography. So ideas please, where to go and what to see?

I've only been to Manchester twice before and was on tight deadlines both times so don't know the place very well.

All ideas gratefully received and if anyone here wants to meet up, even better:).

Wherebouts you goling Mark? Centre or somewhere specific?
 
Not sure of the venue yet, but guessing it'll be city centre.
 
The new Hilton Hotel is worth a snap - its HUGE!! Depending on the weather the city has some nicely lit spots - tripod recommended.

Hey I used to study in Manchester - there's lots of glass in the newly developed area (pretty much the whole city-centre). But sometimes there's an old building right next to one of the new ones. You can get some pretty sweet contrast between the two.
 
If you send me a PM a bit closer to the time I may be up for travelling down to meet you - Manchester street photography is excellent :thumbs:

Salford Quays has some nice photogenic buildings.
If you can call a building photogenic,lots of clean lines and glass,you know the type of thing.
At night it is lit up quite beautifully.

There are quite a few buildings/areas in Manchester that will be good for photography

The Urbis with the shape of the building - http://www.urbis.org.uk/

Manchester City's Ground & the 'B' of the Bang - http://www.bofthebang.com/

The old Central Station which was a traditional style station building, now called Manchester International Convention Centre - http://www.manchestercentral.co.uk/

Central Library, proper old style round library - http://www.manchester.gov.uk/libraries/central

The Imperial War Museum and the bridge across from Old Toilet :D - http://north.iwm.org.uk/

There's always Chinatown with it's archway and the Northern Quarter with lots of new flats/apartments popping up left right and centre. Some of the designers must have been smoking a dodgy cig when doing the original drawings :cuckoo:

Time for a Bump

I'll be in Manchester from the evening of the 2nd to 4th March. At a conference with a colleague so time for photography may be a bit limited but if anyone fancies meeting up let me know. I'll be staying at the Midland Hotel which is in the centre of town.

If you go into the Hilton (it's on Deansgate) you can go up to the 23rd floor bar, some great views from up there of the whole of Manchester.

I did it a few days ago. Only problem is at night you get glare from the window, even when you actually put your lens touching it, the double glazing is so thick it still gets reflections. Could cover yourself and the camera with a big coat tho...might work.

Yeah it's a really great view, nice bar aswel.

You can go all the way round aswel and see Manchester from every angle. Worth a look :)
 
The Northern Quarter is very interesting if you want to do some architectural photography. Also if you want a little excursion, there's a train from Victoria station once an hour to Greenfield, which has amazing hills and reservoir.
 
Yeah I would definitely go to the Northern quarter,great for street photography.Lots of backstreets, contrast in buildings and quriky people walking around. Go Afflecks palace.

Also the big wheel near Printworks is great especially for sunset or night photography.:)
 
thanks folks, time may be limited but hope to get some shots, probably on the Monday, sneak out at lunchtime probably.
