Does anyone know the best spots to go to to photograph planes at manchester airport??

Hi there,

There are a few places you can go but where's best really depends on the time of day you're going, which runways are in use and whether you have a car or not.

When are you thinking of heading over?

There's a great path that runs from a roundabout near the Holiday Inn near the airport. Take the Wilmslow turn off the m56 as you head out towards Chester.
Go under both runway tunnels but as you get out of the second one turn sharp left into a little stump of a road. At the side of that road is a gate, go through there and keep walking. It takes you to a place nicknamed the grassy knoll. Your right next to the runway there.
The Concorde park is now silly money so unless your rich forget it.

You only pay to get into the viewing park if you have a car, it's free otherwise. It's backlit there though until mid to late afternoon which is why a little planning can work well if you're going there specifically for photos. :)

Thanks for advice guys! More into military aviation but just purchased a new lens so need to try it out!

There is a pub at the very start of the runway!! Everyday scores of people go to the pub! Google pubs at Manchester airport and all should be revealed. Can't remember the name but it is excellent and you can film coming in to land, nearly on top of you by the way! If I remember you turn left at the roundabout before getting two terminal 2 carry on for a mile and on right hand side it's there!!

It's called The Airport hotel and if they're landing from the east it's a great place to be in the late afternoon/evening when the sun swings round. One of the few pubs around that does Veltins (awesome German beer) on tap too! :D

You can get views like this from the beer garden round the back - 55mm on full frame. :)
