Hi,

Me and my GF want to do something on Thursday so i thought we could go to Manchester Airport

Were is the best place to photograph from?

Any maps etc.

Thanks,
Matt

There are public footpaths which enable you to look down the center of runway 1. Have a look on google for 'castle mill lane' then the path leads past the 'oval' autograss track.

I haven't photographed from there, but have stood there and it a great 'different' spot

I'd found a useful webpage on another forum a while ago, but it's bookmarked on my home PC, not this one. I'll try and remember to post it later.

A quick Google has turned this up... not sure if it's the same site or not...

I've only shot from the viewing park, but was waiting for someone on a flight, so didn't want to have too far to trek to get to the terminal once I saw the plane come in.

Matt, Just a heads up.. it can get *VERY* boring after 2/3 planes for people who have no aviation interest. I know that as I used to drag my family up to Luton all the time. So you might wanna make sure shes cool with standing next to a runway, in the freezing cold, watching a few planes fly over ;)

It is all cool :) She used to go with her Grandad every weekend so she actually likes it :D :D

have a gander here matt... not sure if any of the above posts include this or not - but worth a look.

there is a pub with a childrens play area right next to the approach runway for terminal 3
you can get them landing there
parking is chargeable but i think you can get some kind of refund if you have a drink
at terminal 3 roundabout turn left and go for about 1/2 mile...

There's quite a bit on the web easily found via Google. I think the airport actually have a site with a map showing where you can park and take photo's from.

Try this one for starters.

Took my missus for a day out there last year & she loved it.

We went to the visitor's park, good viewing etc AND they do nice chips there as well !

Update to above - the pub is called the romper ! Good views from along the road it's on as it overlooks the runway.

Here is one of the best places i've found to take pictures

About a 15 minute walk to get to but well worth it, you can get clear veiws of the planes at some points.

If your coming from the M56 head towards Wilmslow go through the airport tunnels and take the first exit of the roundabout to find somewhere to park just don't block any gates and you will be fine.

Matt type this into Mulitmap and you will see how to get there, good viewing and good food in the cafe

Sunbank Lane, Ringway, Altrincham, Cheshire WA15

Nice find. They list the location I was talking about, although I get to it from the opposite direction.

One of the crash gates here - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?rlz=1...code_result&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CAcQ8gEwAA - Handy for landings.... I used to pop by when I got some spare time at lunch when I lived near by and this was always a busy spot. That been said I wasnt the only one who knew so you may have to park on one of the near by roads.

The offical spotters place is the other side of the air port as Gus says so head towards to air freight terminal and then towards Wimslow... its a PITA so watch for the signs on the road and take cash ( Concord is extra too ).... they dont take Visa as I found out once lol.

BTW - If you head in to Heald Green there is a cross road ( Finney Ln ) before hand..... directly under the flights too - Pub also near :)
