mamiya rb 67 proffesional shutter

Hi all i have at the moment on loan a mamiya rb 67 proffesional film camera.

I have been having problems with the shutter button not firing. When i take the back off it works fine.

I have noticed it is the pin that is not being allowed to go fully out the pin that touches the wind on button.

Any help from Mamiya uses or anyone that has used one and knows how to rectify this would be great!

regards,

John

Have you removed the darkslide and is the back wound on?

The Pro S has multiple interlocks and won't fire with the darkslide in place, or if the back is not wound on. Have you got a film in the back or are you dry-firing without a film to test?

Hi Alastair,

The darkslide is removed and i am dry-firing. take off the back and it will fire. you can see where the back keeps the pin from extending fully when it is in place.

John

It could be related to the small catch next to the film advance lever, try firing with both the catch covering the red dot and not covering the red dot.

Failing this, it could be the lack of film inside, could be an interlock stopping the shutter from firing

Double Post...

Hi,

Just ran an old film through it and it fired. So am i correct in thinking it will not fire without a film when the back is fully in place?

regards,

john

I would guess so, i would test but all of my backs have films in them at the moment

It will fire without a film, but without my RB in front of me I'm struggling to think how.. I think if you slide the multiple exposure lever (next to the back winder) to multiple exposure mode it will fire, or of you manually trip the interlock (I think this is the one top right as you look at the camera from the back).

Hi Alastair,

I just ran an film through the second and it worked ok again. So it looks like you need a film in it while the back is in place to allow the shutter to fire.

I had a problem over the weekend where the camera would sometimes fire. i changed the back today and when i tried it without film with back in place it would not fire. I put in used film and it seems to work ok.

I'll take it back to college tomorrow and check with other bodies too.

Thanks,
John

I have an RZ rather than the RB but would you not need to set it to multiple exposure to fire the shutter without film?

Plus 1.

Ps - how you getting on with the RZ fella?

Indeed...move the lever (under the film wind lever) to show the red spot and you can fire the shutter with no film loaded.

***No it doesn't. Just tried it but i'm sure it will with a film in.***

Well mine does with no dark slide in, erm but thinking.... mine is the RB67 pro so maybe there is a difference.

Dark slide out
Lever set for multiple exposure
Cock the shutter
Wind-on the back

.. should fire even without a film. If it isn't the Pro S/SD then the interlocks shouldn't be a problem?

It would be very strange if you couldn't fire a/any camera without a film in it

Brian

I agree, but with the interlock models it's a little more involved to persuade the camera that it should fire..

This is too and it wont fire without a film in and with the back attached. Remove the back and it does.

john

PS

Have you tried it since reading this post.

john

Maybe the multiple exposure lever mechanism is broken ?

I agree the RB67 Pro S should fire with the dark slide out. In fact you only need to ease it out far enough to see the little triangular shaped cut-out in the dark slide, That's only about a quarter inch or so and I think the film is still covered in the event that you need to dry fire it.

Yep, I have the Pro S, and the camera can be fired without a film in the back. As said above, as long as the dark slide is out far enough to release the interlock, and the little lever jobber is set such that the spade is removed from the pin's path, the camera should fire. Film does not have to be present in the back.
