Hello,

Looking for a medium format slr complete kit, ive only got a small budget but would love one and need it for college.

have looked at:

Mamiya m645
Bronica ETR
Keiv 88

anyone know any used camera stores that would have one of these or similar for reasonable prices?

i have posted a thread in the wanted section, just hoping someones selling one :(

Thanks

I know that Ffordes have a Bronica ETRS up for sale at £190 including a 80mm lens and film holder which has been freshly serviced, it's not in mint condition but it's in pretty good condition.
(I know because i sent it to them to sell on my behalf)

yeah had a look at that and the Mamiya m645j is only £159, i believe. bargins by all accounts but still just out of budget.

You'll be hard pressed to get a (half decent working) MF slr for under that i reckon, try a TLR? A yashica mat or older rollei is a great option if you don't mind the waist level thing.

Both the Bronica and Mamiya are well-made bits of kit - the Kiev as a camera makes a good doorstop..... I'd go for whichever of the first two I could get a prism for (or the standard viewfinder will send you round the bend) - the waist-level finders are fine if you're happy to use them for only "landscape" view, if you need "portrait" orientation, all the fun goes out of it!

I'd concur that a "square" Mamiya , Rolleiflex or even Yashicamat are other possibilities

A Pentacon Six is likely to be within budget.

We don't know what the budget is though

I think the OP put a budget of £130 in his wanted ad. I personally think that's pushing it unless he manages to get a late night eBay bargain but that's fraught with pitfalls.

£130, will be lucky to get a functioning camera, or at least one you'd be happy to present the results for college work.

Might get lucky if you put it together in individual components

At that sort of price, the best bet would be a Yashicamat, which were once the main camera for many wedding photographers......

Thanks for the suggestions, just got a bit more money and now go £160 to spend. Thinking of just going for the M645j, Any other suggestions?

Where are you buying from?

Only issue i can see with the M645J is that you can't change the film magazine part way through the roll, not a big issue for some people, but others like to have a roll of black and white and a roll of colour on the go

Seems reasonable enough to me, might as well go for it then :)
