Hi folks. I hope this doesn't come across as a thinly veiled sale thread. It's not intended to be! My father has a minty Mamiya 7 Mk1 with a 65 and 150mm lens. He's decided to sell it on, and has asked me to help. I must admit I hadn't appreciated what they are worth and now I'm questioning my usual approach of throw it on ebay and hope for the best. I realise the classifieds on here are an option (maybe this is a bit niche) but before I do so, are there any dealers that I should be contacting?

I would stick it in the classifieds here first there is a film section, if no joy then ebay it. Certainly on the list of wanted cameras for me, but I have a holiday to sort first.

It is a lovely thing. Very tempted to stick a roll or two of film through it before it goes to a good home! Don't tell my father!

I suppose there is nothing to be lost from listing it on here, I just have a hunch that it is niche enough that it's unlikely to find a buyer. Not mad keen on ebay for more expensive items but it is the biggest market I guess.

Definitely worth popping it in the classifieds, if I didn't have other commitments at the moment I would be tempted and there may be one or two others in the filmie bit who feel the same. It is a classic camera and with some of the best lenses ever made.

I shoot a mamiya 6, I had to buy it somewhere.
Whilst it is a high value niche, so is a D4 in the film section.
I'd shoot a roll or 2 if only to prove its working correctly before listing it.
I dunno what it is with dads these days when they can't get their kids to shoot the real stuff..:D

Thanks all. Well it sounds like I need to *ahem* test it and get it listed on here. Think I have a roll of Ektar in the fridge still.

This, even though I'm pretty much set for medium format I still find myself looking at them if only for their rangefinder focusing. I'm sure there's someone out there wanting a bit of 6x7 rangefinder goodness.

As an aside, using Comic Sans for that quote in your signature is so weird!

You could try Ffordes for a commission sale. They aim to get a good price, offer a warranty (which could be important for a rangefinder), and give you/your Dad 80%. They will also give an estimate, first from a description of condition, and second (AFAIK) when received and checked.

It's easy to see what they sell for on eBay: just run a search, then filter by 'sold' items (toggle on the left side if you're using the web site). Then find an example that's close to your's in terms of condition and equipment. You may be better off selling one or both lenses separately.

They are a niche machine, big and heavy and used to be a fave amongst high end journos, fantastic lenses.
