Malyshka found dead at Banham Zoo.

That is so sad, and a great loss to all, RIP.

Sorry to hear this, but what does it have to do with Photography? Unless you're doing the autopsy photos that is?

If like me many people may go to there local zoo to take photos. And any big cats are great subjects.

Its a sad loss and sounds extremely strange how she died. I hope her cubs and mate are ok.

Good Grief... Still would have been better in the Off-Topic section...

What next, threads about the evolution of architectural styles in the 20th century because people take photographs with buildings in the background?
Or how about a thread about trees because people photograph them on occasion?

Yes...it's sad...but irrelevant.
Zoo-Animals die...move on...

Should it even have been in a zoo to begin with? That's the question you should be asking...

We've got a TP meet planned there next month (see my sig).....

I don't really have much interest in photographing wildlife/animals, but the big cats are the stars of the show for me....a real shame she died so young and while pregnant too :'(

Morning Rob :D

Mods must be having a lie in this morning!

Indeedy! Good Morning Rob.

Good night last night was it? :)

As for the tiger - it is now better off by far. Think about it - being caged up for others amusement...

do you really expect anything else in a world where people don't read manuals

Morning all!
Third coffee of the day...and looking forward to increasing Global Warming by the wholly uneccessary burning-up of a full tank of BP Ultimate this afternoon...

If its a choice between in a zoo and being killed for "medical" reasons I say zoo every time. Till all countries support and protect animals rightly then the only way most will survive is sadly in zoo's.

And yes this topic may be in the wrong place but I am sure the Mods will move it when they get on.

Which will kill more tigers....you've really got it in for them haven't you??!! :p

Thread moved to the Dead Animal forum. :D

I know Yvonne did a wedding yesterday, and fabs will be in his usual Sunday morning post-cider-rampage stuper.....but as for the rest of 'em...??!

For the record, I was out for a curry last night and I was driving! :bang:

Oh, and also for the record, I can't stand cider! :gag: :p

It's a Tiger in the Tank...boom-boom...
grr...arrgh

I'm with you on that one (and I'm no eco-warrior type either), animals of any type don't do a lot for me, caged or uncaged. Wildlife photography just doesn't interest me (definitely a personal thing though), but as there aren't many wild Tigers roaming rural Norfolk, the only way I'll see one, is by going to a Zoo....

I haven't been to a Zoo for roughly 20 years, and I'm not even 30 years old yet!!

Nor me, I'm more of a sensor cleaning fluid man myself!

Last time I went to a traditional zoo it was a photo-'outing' to Dudley zoo...it was like a Gulag for animals - I've never been so depressed in all my life...

I've just come back from Orlando, I was stopped at some traffic lights on a 4 lane highway, looking around there must have been 120 cars between the 4 sets of lights, most of them SUVs, I was in a 4.6 litre Lincoln Town car.

That's 120 gas guzzlers at one junction, in one town, in one state, the US must get through 100s of millions of gallons of petrol every day, so my opinion is cart on, whatever we do on this little island will have no effect at all on the global situation.

I'm guessing this started out somewhere other than oof.......;)

Very sad news really, especially when you consider Amur Tigers are very rare and she was one of the most important females in the worldwide breeding programme designed to try and save this species. I think we would all prefer these animals to be in their native habitat but zoos these days are critical to the survival of many species.

Whether we should try and preserve endangered animals is of course a completely different debate!

We'd be better trying to preserve their natural habitats, but there you go - what about the people living there - don't they have a right to a better, modern lifestyle too...?

We can't have it both ways...

You'll get no argument from me on that. It's interesting that the Apex predators and the large cute and cuddly animals get so much attention when in terms of the ability of the planet to function they are unimportant. If we really want to get worried we should be looking at the way plankton in the oceans is changing and causing problems that will affect the food chain all the way up to the top of the chain.;)
