Ive just been asked via another nail technician if Id be willing to shoot some pics for a guy who has written a course on 'intimate male waxing' and has asked if she knows of any 'non-squeamish' photographers.
Now, although this sounds like my idea of heaven ... getting some experience, naked men, lots of pain being inflicted,
Im a bit unsure if Id be up to the job, as Ive never done anything like this before. Firstly its down south, which depending when it is, may present a problem in its self, and secondly, most treatment rooms tend to use flourescent strip lights over the working area, have confined space and no natural lighting.
I dont have a flash, and my lenses are the Canon 50mm f1.4 & Canon 100mm F2.8 macro, do you think its do-able?

Hmm, the macro won't do anything for his ego ;)

Definitely doable though. You can manage the white balance, fluorescent lights tend to be fairly bright so you should be able to use a reasonable ISO, use a cheap reflector to put some light back into the scene, even the onboard flash might do the trick, put a sheet of tissue over it to diffuse it a bit.

Eeeeek! :gag:

Course you can do it Glo - wassamarrer wiv ya? ;)

He! he!
Thanks Dod.
I did wonder what the victim ... sorry, model, would say if I uttered the words macro!
I have reflectors, I also have lighting but Im a novice with it & I also think it will be too cramped to use it.
I dont have onboard flash though & thats why I was a bit worried.

Guess I could do with a practice run before I say yes.

Hey CT ... I have a friend with a local salon ... fancy helping me do a test run!

 Thanks but... no thanks - makes me eyes water just thinking about it.

And why can't blokes just be blokes?

I can feel a TP meet coming on. :D :D :D

Ok ... who's first :D

I have to say, the whole thing has taken me a bit by surprise, and Im not sure what to think.
Ive only ever seen the 'back, sack & crack' perfomed on tv & though Im laughing about it, I do wonder if Id be able to keep a professional demeanor.

I dont think it would go down to well if I stood there like a giggly teenager, blushing while I fiddle with my settings.

 do you think the course will be a hit? :suspect:

I really don't think you have anything to worry about being unprofessional wise. You will be so worried about WB and exposure and getting the correct composition you won't even remember that it is a dinkle you're photographing! Borrow someone's flash and you'll do great!

Just go for it, you'll have a ball!

....and a bit of humour is better than embarrased silences!

I suppose if your fiddling was restricted to your settings you mightn't blush too much Glo... :naughty:

:p

This is getting SO funny with the "ring flash" and "down south" implications !! :D  :nono:

Depending on who you are photographing, you may need a X2 extender !!

And set your camera correctly....nothing better than a continuous drive ! ;)

Your more than welcome to borrow mine Glo.....

Flash that is 430ex......

Now why don't I ever get asked to do stuff like this? :naughty: Go for it Glo, sounds like a good opportunity. It will be a laugh if nothing else. I could always come along to assist you :D

Depending on what kind of shots the guy is wanting, I would imagine you should be able to (I was gonna say pull it off, but not a good choice of words is it? ) achieve the shot with the 50mm.

Just go for it glo have a good time and the pics will follow, I must say this is an amusing thread!

I've had my legs done when I was at school two years in a row.........now that was pain! I can think what a trip down south would do for a guys pain thresh hold!

Leg_waxing.jpg

At least it all went to a good cause :)

tripod to keep steady, cos im damn sure you will get camera shake...is this going to be a Haynes Manual type thing?

i would volunteer but you want to get the work done, and not be distracted by uber-buffness and manly man-bits

I'm obviously too much the bird photographer... I misread the thread title and came in thinking it was a male Waxwing shoot

ill do it for you glo no problem

If it needs waxing, then it's likely to be playing for the other team;)
Reflectors can be card/cloth whatever's to hand, as long as it doesn't put a colour cast in.

I'm sure you'll get asked to do the judging Mini..
You have all the credentials after all. ;)

Good luck Gloria, not that you need it by the sound of your glee, I'm thinking you could get the shots with just the 50, if your steady:D ...definatly doable with or without flash I would have thought.

…. I have one tip; wear ear defenders to keep your shots stable…. OUCH!.

Do it in B&W in a 'Calvin Klein' TV ad kind of way...

Or in a '40-Year-old Virgin' kind of way with blood and hair everywhere...
