Yes
A lot of male names have female counterparts
simon/simone
stephen/stephanie
christopher/christine
charles/charlotte
alan/alana/alanis
Gerald/geraldine
david/davina

but what are the female equivalents of
Richard
Keith
Mark
Luke

and the male equivalents of
Ruth
Elizabeth
florence
Doris

(can you tell I had a most "interesting" drive in this morning, mind wandering all over the shop)

Take Florence off your list. The Masculine equivalent is Florent (sounds much better with a French accent). :-)

Mark ~ Marcia
Luke ~ Lucy
? Keith ~ Kitty/K/Catherine

According to Google (and Google never lies)...

The name Keith is of Scottish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "woodland, forest". There isn't a feminine counterpart.

I was in the supermarket the other day and heard a mum shouting at her little boy " Oi! Come 'ere Diesel !" .
Poor child, I wonder what the female equivalent of that is?

I know a woman who has 3 kids: Lacie, Diesel and River.

I also have a nephew called Levi

heard a worse one than that - admittedly quite a while back and the child is now , presumably an adult.

Mother , clearly irritated at child having disappeared in Supermarket let out a yell

"Cassandra - come here NOW "

Child appeared

He was clearly annoyed at having been called to heel.

Wonder if he has changed his name

Well, I know what "a big Diesel" means in Strine...

Girls names seem to be the worse, at a previous school my daughter had in her class, Angel, Willow, princess, Chasity (couldn't manage Chastity?) :D

And then lots of mis-spellings, putting y's for i's etc so things like Nykky, Alysen

There was a mother in the park on Sunday calling for her son Horatio to keep up.

Apparently there is a female equivalent to Keith, it's Keitha - not very common, and although they have other meaning probably close enough to Keira/Katie/etc that someone would choose one of those over the direct equivalent.

Maybe its another one of those kids whos name is the same as where they were conceived (Brooklyn Beckham). There is a Falstaff Brewery in Derby...which would explain it :D

Or just someone who knows their Shakespeare or is a fan of Verdi..

I think it says something about this forum that the only awareness of Falstaff is of a brewery.. .. o_O

To be fair it was only Nick that mentioned a brewery :D

It did seem the fashion, when my two were growing up, to find quite "outrageous names"
I blame the pop stars and sports stars :D
On reflection I blame David Bowie for naming his son Zowie back in the early '70's
(Before some one hits Google, I believe his name was actually Duncan (Zowie) Jones ;) )

About a decade ago there was a fashion in Germany for Anglicised names which seems very odd when you bump into a German called Colin, although the pendulum has swung back on that one and more traditional names are now back in vogue.

Surely the female equivalent to Richard is ....Fanny. ;)
Groan :p
Many years ago a mate of mine named his son Montgomery
But also many years ago, there was a habit of naming kids from history,
for example I knew a Winston.
Has to be better than Fifi Trixibelle (Geldof ) though :D

Think the funniest child name or most inappropriate maybe was when I was reading a notice in the dentist and head a brummie Mother saying "Ebony, Ebony come here and sit down, I turn round in time to see the whitest little girl sullenly slump into the chair next to her mum

Did you manage to hold in the giggles?
I'm not sure I could have!

I did, but only as long as it took me to walk out of the room...my dentist there found it amusing too :P
