I've been asked to put around 2000 pics of a dance show into a book so that folks can see them and buy them. I want about 6 photos per page and even though most are in filename order I want to be able to move pics around.

I've tried CS3 but it runs out of memory with the pics, anyone any suggestions?

Thanks

Allan

I can't help you with the book but I will say that 2000 images is a hell of a lot and would mean 300-350 pages. Aside from the cost of producing such a weighty tome would people really buy it?

A book with that many images in it would put me off due to the sheer volume, I'd be looking at including maybe 1/10th of that and then using Photobox or something similar to publish but even then a 50 page book holds up to 197 images and costs about £38, put your mark-up on top of that and it starts to get very expensive.

Sorry - probably didn't explain it right - its like a catalogue of the pics and then folks buy the pics, as many have no internet.

I would print it on A4 paper and bind it with a comb binder.

So looking for clues as to how to get 2000 pics layed out on a4 pages with the filename underneath

Ah, I see! I don't do any printing at home but I'm sure CS3 should have the capability to print thumbnails which will also keep your costs down both in ink and paper.

You could use the printing options from the standard windows viewer (assuming you are using windows XP), that lets you print contact sheets with approx 35 images per page with file numbers. A lot smaller than 6 per page, but they will still be viewable an it would cut down what you carry round.

I've just checked in CS2 and contact sheets are done under File > Automate > Contact Sheet II.

HTH.

Yes, all my events go the site, I just make sure I hand out enough cards and flyers on the day, if people don't have a computer they always know someone who has or can use one at work.

I tried all the suggestions but just didn't get what I wanted.

Then I found PrintStation - http://www.picmeta.com/products/printstation.htm

Really good, Really Useful and Really worth the money. (And I have nothing to do with them other than they got me out of a hole)

I'm sure someone could write an action for CS3 that used the contact page and added logos on, but I couldn't work it out.

QImage would be my choice for a job like this...

I've used lightroom for contacts and it's very simple but making a book with 2000 images in it .... ouch !

If any of the dancers tried to pick up the book they'll not be dancing again ! ;)
