Hi

I've been asked by someone if I can take some pictures of some products - lipsticks and nail polish. He is looking doe so,e photos to put on his website where he sells these items. He wants some nice photos of the products but also some arty pictures like smearing the lipsticks on a canvasr something along those lines. I've not been doing photography for tha long but would like to give it a go. I've not really got any experience in this field. Also, what concerns me is that I may not have the equipment that's needed....?
I have a DSLR, lenses including a macro lens, tripod, SB800 speedlight, soft box, stand, umbrella, reflector. Do I need anything else such as a back drop?
I'm not sure how to go about this so any ppadvise would be great. Thanks.

Hi Ravinder

Have you looked for online insight & tutorials?

A google shows many such instructional videos here. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=s...roid-motorola&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8

There are folk at TP that have product photography experience (mine is very limited) but your question is so general and only talks about "the kit"...........photography is not just about kit. As far as the creativity elements, well I surmise you will find some inspirational imagery that your 'client' is referring to for you to try to emulate???

Perhaps if you took some test product shots and asked for some specific feedback & critique that would be (more?) beneficial to you?

The question/information is really too vague. "Product photography" can vary from rather generic white light tent shots to very complex. "Lipstick" could be something pretty non-reflective and angular or cylindrical chrome. All of this affects the technique and lighting requirements. But technique/knowledge is more important... I've seen some very nice (I would call it "high end") product photography that was done with just natural light and reflectors/diffusers.

A backdrop of some sort is almost certainly going to be required....

Thanks for the replies.

I apologise for the question. I know it is more then just the kit. I just want to make sure that kit wise, I have everything that's needed...
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will try and take some test shots as you say and get some feedback. I maybe shouldn't of offered to do this shoot....but, I thought I'd give it a go and hopefully have nothing to lose. It's not a paid shoot or anything.

I did think about buying a cheap tent light...? Would this be OK to use as aback drop as well?
I lack imagination :( so, I'm trying to think of what can I do with these products in order to capture some good shots.

Thanks.

You can search for some inspirations and how and what concept do they use and recommend for shot which can help you better understand have great photography too.

Or if you're using a camera phone you can use a Snapchat filter :D

@Roshni Patel Why haven't you updated your own threads, with replies to questions asked?

(Have you not got access to the classifieds section yet? :D )
