A fairly experienced tog mate of mine bought a new (new for him but used) Canon lens recently, he then complained to me about how soft it was... and how all the lights in his pictures had a star on them.... yep you've guessed it, the lens had a starburst filter in front of the uv. Problem solver once I unscrewed the filter... Sometimes it makes me wonder how people can miss something that obvious (and he'b been using it for a few weeks)

:D
I was waiting on you saying he had bought a 135mm f2.8 soft focus lens

So he's got a lens with both a UV and a starburst filter on yet didn't see either. Are you sure he took the lens cap off too? ;0)

Beats me too. When I get anything new (or new to me) I look it over in detail - just interested in what I've got.

With a lens, especially a second hand one, I'd be peering at every bit to check it out, particularly the front and back elements.

Was your mate suitably embarrassed when you removed the filters?

Oh yes, he was very embarrised :)
