No
The cheapest main dealer price for the Tamron 24-70mm SP Di VC USD G2 for Nikon is £1,029.00.
Most expensive main dealer price same lens is £1199
Grey import from "e-infin" is £675

no wonder people are going for the grey imports, How can the main dealers justify a markup between £354- £524? no wonder shops are going out of business

Guess which have bought from and waiting for delivery

I foresee the opening of a worm-can. :exit:

That`s a mad difference. No wonder indeed (unless you can claim VAT back I suppose).

You're assuming that the price difference is down to the retailer. Manufacturers do not charge all their customers the same price. If the two main dealers are charged £200 more than e-infinity are and then have to charge you VAT then they will be more expensive and have a smaller profit.

Capitalism?

Take a walk around your home... dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, tumble dryer, TV, sky box etc. etc. everything in your house, from your tin opener to your TV would have cost considerably less to buy for the person or company who sold it to you............. a tin opener costs what, a quid to buy for a cheap one, probably bought for 10p. 90 percent profit.

I agree with what you're saying, however if everyone was to purchase everything from outside the UK, people on this site wouldn't be buying camera gear.

Hang on.....what about paying rent, business rates, staff.........YOU try running an actual shop one day!

But it is difficult. Like most people, I'm likely to go for the sharpest price.....and feel awful about stiffing the guys who try to give service.

So whenever I can I pay a bit more and buy from a real person, but only the ones who really go the extra mile to help...they are the ones who will survive!

The market is based on competition. If company A can sell something for significantly less than company B then company B will have to increase the value of their products (eg by providing a service like advice or being able to feel the product in your hand before buying). But I don’t think many people will find that service worth the difference in price, especially considering the saturation of gear reviews on the internet.

After extensive research based on my needs and procrastinating over how far I could push my budget, I’ve just bought a Canon 77D body from e-infinity for well under £500. Arrived in just over a week from order. The lower cost of this as opposed to a UK dealer's price for an 80D or 90D meant I was able to afford a decent lens to accompany it. I’m also very pleased with the camera.
I would certainly use a grey importer again.

After you've declared your import to HMRC, the price of this lens is £675 + 6.7% duty + 20% VAT on the total after duty = £864.27. So your real saving is £164.73.

WRONG check your facts first

SHIPPING COSTS
We offer free shipping to most countries. For shipment to regions that are less accessible or regarded as remote areas by couriers, additional postage cost will be added automatically at checkout. In other words, the price you see on our website is final and you need not pay extra, unless the region in which you resides is considered a remote area. All charges will be shown before confirmation of payment.

Have to ask why should I pay more for the same item? If you want to throw your money away then go ahead and put it in someone elses pocket.

Not sure about others but e-infinity specify that import tax is included.

Dont then!
But dont say you cant understand why things are dearer here when the average wage in the UK is £29k and in China its £9k.

Then I imagine it would be a simple matter for anyone who needs to reclaim it to get a VAT receipt...

Don't think that supporting uk shops is going to make goods cheaper it's only keeping them in business

I can got one down the pub for £150!

I dont know why we do these threads as this is only going to go the same way as all the rest...................

So the new thread I was thinking of posting about buying a UV filter from a grey importer to use on a DSLR (as they're so much better than those new mirrorless things) isn't going to win you as a friend then? Damn!

Oh, and I've been asked by a complete stranger to be the photographer at their wedding as they've heard I've got a good camera. I've never done this sort of photography before, but I did take a nice photo of my daughter's pet rabbit once about three years ago. So how many thousand pounds do you think is about right for me to charge the happy couple?

:exit:

;)

Think that would come down to whether you are shooting RAW or JPEG.
And also whether you can shoose the right system between Mac or Windows for the editing.

With all the money you've saved buying grey, you can afford to do it for free. :-)

Round here it’s closer to £9K than £29K. (Yorkshire Dales)

To get £29,000 a year in rural south west wales you need to be Mr Incredible with Super human powers and 4 Degrees.

Most are on 16 - 18K if full time but many are part time so get nowhere near that in reality.
