Any sports photographers struggling to get paid off mailonline...

Its 40 quid a pic and they build up over the season.. had numurous emails back and forth.. last one said they can only pay for ones I send them urls to.. even though they have me in there system.. they marked my pics with my copyright.. so they are fully aware of who I am and that payment is required.. they paid me automatic last yr... this yr its.. they pay if i can find them and dont pay if i cant :(

sent them a list of urls as requested.. 3 weeks ago and no reply

anyone else simmilar problems? theres no way I am giving up.. small claims court next..
 
thats strange.. I ahve an account number with them.. i got paid ok last yr and previous. they know they are my pics as they mark them.. yet still struggling to get paid :(
 
I have heard that a lot of newer usages have been paid out but a lot of older ones haven't.

Tony is it your understanding that they pay per URL. So same photo used in different URLs you get paid twice?
 
Had payment for maybe 70% of newer ones (from around Feb onwards but still owed some from Dec last year. Had the Nov ones from last year a couple of weeks back so they are getting there

Think they have recently changed systems or so I'm lead to believe

Hear a few agencies have had issues as well so you are not alone
 
Steven did you get paid twice for different URLs e.g. Championship Live Update and the final report?
 
Phew that is good news.

Shame they stopped the Live Update as I was doing well with it :mad:
 
i got an email late today apologising for the late response and payment is now in system...
 
@KIPAX Good news ... I must admit given I leave all of that payment chasing to the agency I only have a small appreciation as to how hard it can be .. very frustrating especially as your Copy is on the actual photo ... It's certainly something that has always bothered me ... finding time to chase down where your image has been used .. I've been thrown out of more newsagents than I care to remember as I rifle through their back pages ....
 
More upset about the ones i miss... poor stuff if they only pay for the ones i send urls...

who are you dealing with @ the Mail Tony?. (PM me if you wish to keep it to ourselves).
I have just received all my up to date payments last week!. I believe there is issues with historic payments due to changes in staff structuring etc. Kind regards Graham.

thats was july 23rd... just sent a very strong email to all the mailonline contacts i have asking when I will get paid :(

whats are my options? smaill claims court?
 
Listing out all the images they haven't paid for with a letter before action might make someone get off their arse.

Social media is another way of publicising that they aren't paying as per previous arrangements.

If you continue to supply images when they're not paying then they'll see that as being ok with them paying late or not bothering. It's a nose cut off/spite face situation though.
 
I had trouble with them other year, got paid for stuff they dipped off agency site (well i got paid for some) but struggled to get paid for 1 job from them for the Championship Grand Final in the previous season and also for 8 pics only published online last season, did eventually all come through though
 
Mine all due in 2/3weeks after I emailed last week with links.
 
I've still got a couple from start of the year outstanding but they are coming through. oddly. I've been paid for one used in August haha

So someone in caharge or seems to be first says I need to send an invoice.. I query this that its been self billing before.. so now I have to send a list of urls (AGAIN see earlier post sen tin July) .. and the price now is 40 per pic.. 60 if two pics in same article and 10 per pics if used again.... hmmmm
 
I've never known a world where the customers dictates the price of the goods.....

£10 if used again - I assume that's new .. certainly wasn't before ...

No I read it slightly wrong...Sorry..... This is the quote from the "UK Sports Desk Assistant" which isnt much better to be fair...

In terms of payment we have a standard flat rate, that is; 1 picture £40, 2 pictures £60 and any further images are an extra £10 if used in the same article.

So you would only get 80 quid if 4 pics used.....

£20 2nd pic
£10 subsequent pics per URL

Starts again for a each new URL

well 5 weeks after being told they are now in system and i will be paid in 2 or 3 weeks.. guess what...... wrong! .....no I havent just been paid.. I ahve sent another emnailing complaining still no payment...

Since all this they ahave had a few sages out of me so I will just wait to end of season and start all this again... meanwhile still trying to get paid for last season :(
 
I have just emailed again now asking for an update tomorrow on well it will be paid.
 
confident of getting it.. but thats why i leave it to end of season.. i wouldnt got through all this for one show :(
 
I am due £680.
 
Mine was paid up in full on 31st Oct
 
i complained and now I ahve been given the 19th.. a yr and a half of broken promises....
 
Well we had an etta james moment on the 19th :)

and today i got a self billing one from this season..even though a few used....looks like there systems back on track :)
 
in fact .. this pic was used a week or so ago and they paid already.. so summats working.. but multiple pics used last month not paid... you would think somehting like mailonline would ahve a decent working system

They introduced a new policy that they dont pay for s***e anymore, maybe why they owe you loadsa money mate, think theyre also looking into not paying Canon shooters as its them who send in the s***e. :exit:
