Yes
Got my new iPhone yesterday but I can't seem to get alerts from the Mail app. I still need to open the app for it to receive new mail, I don't get any alerts.

In the Notification screen, everything is switched on but I can only select "Alert Style When Unlocked", is there no way to get it to alert you when the phone is locked like for texts, twitter etc?

There are a few more settings. You can set it to push or at least check more often. If you set it to check on demand or similar it does only update when you open it.

What email provider are you using, some (like gmail) have to be set to fetch every 15 minutes for the closest you'll get to push email.

Choose a different mail app if you want proper push in gmail, have a look at BlueMail, Email, Spark or Outlook.

Which settings, I couldn't see any more in the Notification Centre

It's Gmail but I hate the Gmail app. Every 15 minutes would be fine if I new where to set it to do that.

Settings, mail, accounts.

You want settings, Mail, accounts, fetch new data Set to yes. Manual means it will load it when you go into Mail. Shortest interval is 15 minutes.

I also dislike the GMail app, you can set GMail up in any of the other apps I mentioned, and they will work for GMail and give proper push email.

Ah, of course. 2 years with an Android phone has addled my brain! :wacky:

Cheers

Thanks Dave, I'll have a look at those but I do like the simplicity of the standard iPhone app

The gmail app is actually pretty damn good.

It may work well but I just find the look of it all rather hideous! We used Outlook at work until 3 years ago then switched to Google, I still hate the look of it for business use.
