Hello.

I am doing some research for a project and I am trying to find some comparable photographers to the great Bruce Gilden.

If any one can point me in the right direction that would be really appreciated.

Many thanks.

Comparable in what regard? Not my favourite photographer by any means, but is this of any use: http://www.everybodystreet.com/ ? There used to be a longer version on there too, with more people, but it seems to have disappeared.

I have just come across this interview and thought I would share it. It gives an insight into how Bruce Gilden captures real life on the streets of New York and his views on what makes a unique and successful photograph in this fascinating Bruce Gilden interview.

Also, check out the Icon site to see some fantastic photographic greeting cards including several images of Bruce Gildens. I particularly like Fantastic!

Hey thanks for this link, its interesting and could be useful!

I am looking for Quirky photographers who catch entertaining imagery that reflect the world in which we live. Crazy things that make us smile whilst provoking thought.

You kinda sound like you're promoting him to be honest!

I'm not sure how sticking a flash in someone's face captures anything reflective of their world, but maybe that's just me. :)

One of the photographers in that link above is as you describe, Ricky Powell. In terms of the younger generation perhaps someone like Severin Koller. Not overtly crazy like Gilden, but there's the occasional subtle humour and dry wit on his blog. He's good friends with Chris Weeks, Frank Jackson etc. (See this video, although it's basically an advert for Leica.)

Hope you find what you need anyway, if you can find the full version of the everybody street video there are plenty of interviews with many street photographers that have worked at a similar time to Gilden - Jamel Shabazz etc.
