Magnifying Eye Piece

Id be interest in replies to this. Does it mean you loose the 100% viewfinder on the D3 or 95% on the D700 because of the magnification?

Yes, these are superb, first thing I fit to a D2X or D700.

No, I don't fit an extra eye piece, if it works out let me know, and I might try one myself.

Did you notice any distortion with the eye piece?

Not really, maybe the text at the bottom of the VF is a bit more wavy but I'm not looking at that.

The DK-17m is really only a little thicker than the stock Dk-17m, maybe protruding 3 or 4 mm more than the stock finder.

i have one and it just makes what you have bigger, as there is quite a bit of wasted black space around the viewable area, you dont loose or gain any image it just gets bigger

I use one as well but I have to remember to put my contact lenses in when I go out with the camera as it does cut off the image if you use it whilst wearing glasses.

any of these things made for a canon?

Can you get them to fit the D300 ?

doesnt for me

Does for me

I'm pretty short sighted (no clever quips please) and if I have my specs on I have to tilt the camera to be able to see the top of the frame and then the display at the bottom. Its fine when I have contacts in and can get my eye closer to the viewfinder - its great then

You need to adjust the viewfinder diopter - that should sort it.

You got me questioning this now PD - I've just spent the last half hour with both viewfinders and my glasses & contact lenses.

One thing I do know is that my prescription is way over the diopter adjustment on the camera. the good news is my eyes are getting less short sighted now and as my optician joked the last time I was there I will be the only one in the old peoples home who doesn't need glasses - something for me to look forward to there then!!

I did my research and found that Nikon actually make corrective viewfinders but even with one of these it would still be slightly under what I need for perfect vision.

Then I thought I could get a prescription put into a viewfinder-yes I could, especially as it is easy to remove from this camera but then I realise I have an astigamatism in that eye too so landscape would work but moving the camera through 90 degrees to portrait would make the frame fuzzy - not the end of the world but not the perfect solution.

Anyway I tried a few tests - If I have my glasses on the DM-17K makes the fame fill the viewfinder almost exactly as it is away from my eye due to my glasses. My mind then makes me want to tilt the camera to check that the frame IS in fact central and not off to one side or up or down slightly. When I have my contacts in I can see the surround of the frame as my eye is nearer and I'm happy that what I see is what I'm gonna get (plus the 5% I can't see).

So to be fair it's probably more me and my eyes rather than the viewfinder that makes me prefer using my contacts when using it.

Only £5, think I'll order one. If it's good I'll ping you a message.

Update: looks quite big!

So, did you get the eye-cup? If so, how does it fare? Would like to know, please.

Andy, what's the difference between the two you've listed? They both have the same part number, I can't figure out the difference

Another question about these, do they fit on top of the existing eyepiece, or do they replace it?

Also, while on the subject of eyepieces, anyone try this?

Thanks for any feedback.

does this fit D90?

Whoops, I meant the DK-17 (the one that comes as standard) vs the DK-17m.

The DK-17m replaces the DK-17 - I just unscrew the DK-17 and put it in the DK-17m's box for safe keeping.

You can get other models / types that fit the D90. The eye piece on the D90 is square, while the element here is a circular one that fits other bodies (D1, D2, D3, D700 and their different incarnations).

Thanks for the clarification, I thought I was getting something wrong.
