I was browsing through some videos on Youtube and I came across load of videos about Magic Lantern software for Canon DSLRs. What exactly are the advantages with this software for taking still photos? All the videos seem to be about shooting videos with the DSLR and not stills.

99% of the stuff I do with my 550D is take stills, I only really shoot video on the rare occasion so would I benefit from installing the Magic Lantern software? It does look handy for video shooting but not seen a lot about stills.

I'm a bit wary of tampering with my 550D as it is my only camera and my first DSLR but curiosity is killing me. Youtube is a dangerous place to be when you're bored...

I should really search the forum before posting a topic lol. Cheers

Don't worry about it, I posted the same only a couple of weeks ago, I should have searched aswell I guess.

Been using it on my 550d for almost 2 years, never skipped a beat, huge amount of features, I wouldnt go back to standard firmware after using it, check out the linked posts for full endorsements. :)

Used it on my 60D since new, no problems, lots of features and I've never shot video. Like Jas, I'd not like to use my 60D with just the canon firmware.

Just waiting the finished version for my 5D!!

I downloaded it not long after posting this topic. I thought I would risk it and glad I did. I put a card in without the software in the camera last night and I thought it was broken because I'm used to using ML now lol.
